Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
On Nov. 13 officers answered a call to Acorn Lane in reference to a yard fire. The complainant stated he and his wife woke up by smelling smoke. They looked outside and their yard was on fire.
Nov. 13, answered a call to Pecan Drive, Surrency, in reference to a domestic. The dispute occurred between a mother and a daughter.
Nov. 13, answered a call to Phillipi Church Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated an unknown person(s) had stolen his 36” Sanyo T.V. from his residence. Investigation continues.
Nov. 14, answered a call to Bradley Road in reference to a domestic. The dispute was between a husband and a wife that are currently in the process of getting a divorce. Both parties were advised to see their attorney.
Nov. 15, a routine traffic stop on West River Road and Belly Acres resulted in the arrest of Najla Muhammad, age 40, of Baxley. Muhammad was charged with possession of crack cocaine, brake lights required, driving without license, DUI/alcohol and possession of a drug related object.
Nov. 16, answered a call to Tower Road in reference to a one-vehicle accident. The vehicle was found in the ditch, a witness stated driver was ejected from the vehicle and left the scene of the accident. Robert Lee Futch, of Odum, age 43, was arrested and charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to drive within single lane.
Nov. 16, answered a call to David Carter Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated that someone had taken a transit valued at $700.00 from his residence. The Transit was recovered. Arrest is pending.
Nov. 17, answered a call to Alma Highway in reference to a land dispute. As a result of the incident, Nicholas Scott Spell, age 37, of Hazlehurst, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and obstruction of an officer.
Nov. 17, answered a call to Back & Dixie Dairy in reference to a theft. The complainant stated a 1995 Dodge, Dakota, blue/gray in color, was taken. Also an Agstar generator, valued at $3,800.00, was taken from the dairy. The vehicle was entered into GCIC. Investigation continues.
Nov. 17, answered a call to Ed Carter Road in reference to D.O.A. The responding officer and Appling EMTs met with the mother of the victim and she stated she could not find a pulse on her son when checking on him at 5:00 a.m. The coroner was called and ruled the death as accidental death based on the 2003 diving accident which paralyzed Kelly M. Carter.
Nov. 18, answered a call to Lamar Black Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated missing from her residence was a two-man Bass Tracker boat with a trolling motor and a one-carat cluster ring. Value of missing items is $1,500.00. Investigation continues.
Nov. 18, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report a domestic dispute. The wife stated her husband has been verbally abusing her for forty years.
Nov. 18, answered a call to Lewis Sead Road in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated his estranged wife broke into his residence doing $450.00 worth of damage to front door. Also several items were taken from the residence and his 2003 Chevrolet Malibu was taken that he wants returned.
Nov. 18, answered a call to Bertell Road in reference to a domestic dispute.
The dispute was between family members involving a juvenile. The DFACs was called and case was turned over to DFAC’s.
Nov. 19, answered a call to Milton Hallman Road in reference to theft by conversion. The Satilla REMC found where residents of home had been using electricity illegally. The meter was sealed. Investigation continues.
Nov. 20, answered a call to Kennedy Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated that an unknown person (s) broke the back sliding glass door while attempting to enter. Nothing was reported missing at the time of the report.
Nov. 21, a routine traffic stop on Hwy. 203 and Bacon County Line resulted in the arrest of Michael A. Thomas, age 27, of Alma. Thomas was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, driving without license, VGCSA, obstruction of an officer, and speeding. Also, Thomas has an outstanding warrant with U.S. Marshall.
