Sheriff Benny Deloach gives report of incidents 11-11-09

Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Dept.

On October 31, answered a call to Rosewood Lane in reference to shots being fired. A complainant stated a subject was firing shots in the neighborhood. Subject was found at his residence. William Ezra Merritt, age 59, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Oct. 31, answered a call to MLK Avenue in reference to a domestic disturbance. The altercation was between acquaintances. Carl Garrett Williams, age 27, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Oct. 31, answered a call to Brandon Street in reference to a disturbance. A verbal disagreement between occurred between a mailman and the complainant. The mailman told the complainant his mail would not be delivered until his mailbox was moved.

Oct. 31, while local probation officers and deputies were conducting a home contact/visit on Blackshear Hwy., Robert Akins, age 67, of Baxley, was found in violation of his probation. Akins was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and probation violation.

Oct. 31, answered a call to San Marco Drive in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated an acquaintance came to her residence to get some belongings, became irate and threw an XBox at the complainant. The acquaintance had left the residence before officer’s arrived.

Oct. 31, answered a call to Altamaha School Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated he went to mow his grass and his lawn mower was missing.

The mower is a 2008 Poulan, black in color valued at $1,000.00. Investigation continues.

Nov. 1, answered a call to Spring Branch Road in reference to domestic. An ex-husband and ex-wife had a verbal confrontation. The ex-husband agreed to leave the residence without incident.

Nov. 1, answered a call to Yellow Pines Circle in reference to a domestic. A complainant stated an offender had kicked out a window in her living room. The offender was apprehended in a wooded area behind complainant’s residence. Kenneth Lee Sellers, age 54, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Nov. 2, answered a call to a local business office in reference to financial fraud. The complainant stated someone had tried to cash a check on her account at a local bank, and she had not written the check. Investigation continues.

Nov. 2, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report identity fraud. The complainant stated someone had used his social security number to obtain a cell phone in his name. Investigation continues.

Nov. 2, answered a call to Nails Ferry Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated his lawnmower had been stolen from his residence. The mower is a 2006 or 2007 Kubota zero turn, orange in color, valued at $6,900.00. Investigation continues.

Nov. 3, answered a call to Gene Road, Surrency, in reference to a theft. The complainant stated someone had forced open his back door and took a 380 ACP Bersa pistol, black in color. Investigation continues.

Nov. 3, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report financial identity fraud. The complainant stated eight transactions were on her credit card that she knew nothing about. Investigation continues.

Nov. 3, answered a call to Zoar Road in reference to a dog attack on livestock. A complainant stated that five of his goats were killed by a neighbor’s dogs. The goats were valued at $750.00. Investigation continues.

Nov. 4, answered a call to Pretty Ford Road in reference to an accident. The accident was turned over to Georgia State Patrol. One party accused the other party of making threats. As a result of this incident, one party has to appear in Federal Court to answer charges in reference to threats made.

Nov. 4, answered a call to Golden Isles East (Hwy. 341), Surrency in reference to a theft. A complainant stated unknown subject (s) gained entry into a fenced in area. Stolen was a 10 or 12 ft. trailer with a tailgate black in color. Mounted to the trailer were a Lincoln Ranger 8 welder and a portable air-compressor. Investigation continues.

Nov. 4, answered a call to County Farm and Cain roads in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated unknown person (s) keep throwing bottles into his business sign, doing damage to the sign.

Nov. 6, answered a call to Jake Moody Road in reference to a domestic. The altercation occurred between husband and wife. Michael L. Beasley, age 53, of Baxley, and Ellen E. Beasley, age 52, of Baxley, were both arrested and charged with affray (fighting). Both subjects were released on bond.
