The Baxley-Appling County Hospital Authority met for a monthly meeting on Sept. 28. Attending the meeting were Chairperson Peggy Miles, Board Members Jesse Alderman, Mitch Crosby, Donnie Head, Randy Kimbrel, Julie Scarborough and James Twiggs. Staff members present included CEO Dale Spell, CFO Elaine Pike, COO Joyce Alderman, DON Ann McDonald, LTC Administrator Meelba Webb, Coporate Compliance Officer Kim Quinn and Board/Medical Staff Coordinator Tina Johnson.

Minutes and financials were presented and approved along with monthly reports from administration, nursing, operations and long-term care. Items of interest to the community were as follows:

-The Pavilion will be hosting the Southeast Fall Council of the Georgia Healthcare Association on October 22, 2009. Area nursing homes gather twice a year to hear the latest information concerning the long-term care industry. Approximately 50 nursing home administrators and the GHCA staff will be attending the meeting. We are extremely excited to show off The Pavilion.

-The Board voted to upgrade to digital mammography. Digital Mammography will allow for instantaneous reading and allow the radiologist to get a report to the ordering physician in 1 - 2 days speeding up diagnosis and treatment for the patient. By adding this piece of equipment our radiology department will have been given an overall upgrade in the last 18 months. A 34-slice CAT Scan was installed in September with the upgraded MRI scheduled for installation in December.
