Deloach gives report of incidents 10-21-09

Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department.

On October 7, answered a call to Sycamore Lane in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated he is not living in his house at this time, but an unknown person or persons took from his residence a bedroom suite, refrigerator, stove and several other items valued at approximately $2,900.00. Investigation reveled persons responsible for taking items from the above residence. Persons were advised to return items to residence and complainant was told he could press charges.

Oct. 9, a routine traffic stop on City Circle Road and Pine Street resulted in the arrest of Atosha Howard, age 29, of Baxley. Howard was charged with driving while license suspended/revoked and VGCSA/marijuana.

Oct. 10, an officer was dispatched to Surrency in reference to an erratic driver. The vehicle was stopped on U.S. Hwy. 121 north. Edward Dewayne Carter, age 56, of Surrency, was arrested and charged with failure to drive within a single lane, open container in vehicle, and VGCSA/marijuana. A passenger in the vehicle, Rhonda Jo Crosby, age 42, of Baxley, was also arrested and charged with VGCSA/marijuana.

Oct. 10, answered a call to Buckhead Road in reference to a stolen vehicle. The complainant stated an unknown person took his vehicle without his permission. The vehicle was entered into GCIC. Investigation continues.

Oct.10, answered a call to Hatch Parkway North in reference to a domestic. Two acquaintances got into an altercation. The complainant stated that the offender ran over him with his truck. Neither victim nor offender was at the scene when officers arrived.

Oct. 10, answered a call to Henry Thomas Road in reference to damage to Property. The complainant stated his neighbor’s horse came into his yard causing damage to his electric fence and feed bins.

Oct. 11, officer was dispatched to Appling ER in reference to an assault. The victim stated an altercation occurred the day before. The victim stated he thinks a known subject hit him in the head with a pipe. Investigation continues.

Oct. 11, answered a call to Harmony Church Road/Old Field Cemetery Road in reference to harassment/threats. The complainant stated a neighbor pointed a pistol at him.

Oct.12, answered a call to Altamaha School Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated a commercial truck with a trailer rode by his residence and the trailer caught the power lines and pulled down two power poles on his property.

Oct.13, answered a call to Holmesville Road and Hovis Road in reference to threats. A complainant stated a known subject tried to run her off the road.

Oct.14, answered a call to Poor Robin Road in reference to harassing phone calls. The complainant stated she has changed her cell phone number and is still receiving harassing calls.

Oct. 14, a routine traffic stop on Ga. Hwy. 15 resulted in a citation being written for possession of marijuana to a juvenile. A juvenile justice officer was notified and juvenile was released to mother.

Oct.14, answered a call to Blackshear Hwy in reference to threats. The complainant stated his brother keeps making threats towards him.

Oct.14, answered a call to Lennox Road in reference to a possible suicide attempt. Upon officer arrival subject denied making such threats.

Oct.15, answered a call to Farm Road in reference to a suicide threat. A husband and wife had a dispute. The wife threatened to kill herself with a pistol. The wife was taken to ER for evaluation.

Oct. 15, answered a call to Johns Lane in reference to theft. Baxley City Water Department had cut off the water at a residence. Upon checking the residence one month later it was found that the seal on the meter had been tampered with and the water turned back on. A bill of $661.34 has not been paid. Investigation continues.

Oct.15, answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated while his vehicle was parked at Wal-Mart something or someone struck the driver side fender.

Oct. 15, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report a theft on Hollis Street. Six checks were stolen from the checkbook of complainant and one check had been cashed at Wal-Mart. Investigation revealed Ashley Nicole Hobbs, age 24, of Waynesville, had taken the checks. Hobbs was arrested and charged with two counts of forgery in the first degree.
