On Tuesday, October 27 the Appling County Board of Commissioners held a Public Hearing at 5:00 p.m. to discuss and to approve the abandonment, no longer to service, of at least part of seven county maintained roads. The commissioners opened the meeting by going in order of when the petitions to have the roads closed were received.

The first two roads, C.F. Crosby Road and Pinderosa Road were voted on together with Commissioner Charlie Leggett making the motion, with a second by Commissioner Ronnie Rentz, to abandon both roads. The motion carried by a four to zero vote, as Commissioner Theodore Wilkerson not in attendance.

The next road brought before the commissioners was Coral Road. Commissioner Rentz made a motion, which was seconded by Commissioner Sarah Boatright, to abandon the road. The motion was also carried with none opposed.

The fourth road to be discussed was Glenn Aycock Road. The abandonment of the road was made as a motion by Leggett, with Boatright seconding. The motion carried unanimously.

The next road was only the bridge on Hamm Road. The motion was made by Leggett, and seconded by Commissioner John Tillman, with all commissioners voting in favor of the motion.

The petition to have a portion of Buck Williams Road abandoned was withdrawn so no vote was needed and the road will continue to be maintained and serviced by the county.

The final road to be discussed by the commissioners was a portion of Lee Woods Road. After discussion by local citizens and the commissioners a motion was made by Boatright, and after a second by Leggett, all commissioners voted to approve the abandonment of the advertised portion under the condition that an easement be given by Larry Wilson providing Billy Woods access to his property.

The commissioners will have their next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 3 at 6:00 p.m.
