City council meets 8-5-09

The regular scheduled meeting of the Baxley City Council was held July 28. The council approved a request made by a city employee for an extended sick leave at half pay, per the employee handbook. City Manager Jeff Baxley explained that the only criteria is to have at least 10 years of service. The employee has 23 and one half years of service.

Old business

-Two-second readings and adoptions for ordinances annexing properties in the city of Baxley were approved.

-The council adopted a joint resolution recognizing August 4, 2009 as National Night Out in Baxley.

City manager report

The manager gave a brief report on the budget process. He stated that the budget is coming along nicely. He commended the employees and department heads. The manager also went on to explain that it is going to be a lean year.

The manager reported that he attended the Hwy 341 ribbon cutting ceremonies July 22 in Surrency. Jeff Baxley stated that the governor had mentioned that he was pleased with the turn out. There were approximately 300 citizens attending the ceremonies. He concluded by saying Baxley will benefit greatly with the completion of Hwy 341.
