The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department.
On September 2 at approximately 10:06 p.m., officers made a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle on Orange Street. As a result of the stop and consent search, a small plastic baggie of powdered cocaine was seized. Arrested in connection with this seizure was Bradley Glynn Branch, Jamie Thomas and Mitchell Wade Blanton, all of Baxley and Tonya Thomas, of Gordon, on charges of one count each of V.G.C.S.A. possession of a controlled substance.
Sept. 4 at approx. 8:59 a.m., answered a call to a Highland Drive address in reference to an entering auto incident. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had busted out the side window on his car and removed a purse belonging to his wife. The purse contained several personal papers, as well as her driver’s license. After a brief investigation, Prentice Michael Farrington, of Baxley, was taken into custody and charged with one count-entering automobile with the intent to commit theft.
Sept. 6 at approx. 11:18 a.m., met with a complainant at the police department in reference to a child molestation incident. Investigation into the incident led to the arrest of Brandon Keith Simmons, of Alma, on charges of two counts each of child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes.
Sept. 6 at approx. 9:45 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was a 16-yoa juvenile of Glennville on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Sept. 7 at approx. 1:28 a.m., met with a resident at a Holmesville Avenue address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that he had been gone and when he returned he discovered that person(s) unknown had burglarized his home. Reported missing was a can full of change, a Play Station II and an orange duffle bag.
Sept. 8 at approx. 12:51 a.m., made a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle on Tollison Street. As a result of the stop and a consent search, three Xanax pills, a green baggie with marijuana, a clear baggie with powder cocaine and some drug paraphernalia was seized. Arrested in connection with this seizure was Bradley Glynn Branch, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of possession of marijuana, possession of a drug related object, possession of a knife while committing a crime, and V.G.C.S.A. possession of a controlled substance. Also arrested was Michelle Hallman, also of Baxley, on charges of one count each of failure to stop at a stop sign, driving while unlicensed or expired, suspended registration, possession of marijuana, possession of a drug related object and V.G.C.S.A. possession of a controlled substance.
Sept. 8 at approx. 8:00 a.m., answered a call to the Chamber of Commerce parking lot in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that she had left her car parked and when she returned she discovered that person(s) unknown had entered her car and removed a bag full of clothes and a new part for her car.
Sept. 10 at approx. 8:00 a.m., answered a call to Thompson’s Farm Supply in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that sometime during the night person(s) unknown removed a trailer from the business grounds. The trailer is described as 16' metal trailer, red in color, with black painted rims, and had a set of 6' antique root harrows on it.
On Sept. 13 at approx. 1:00 p.m., answered a call to a Pine Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that while she was away person(s) unknown entered her home and removed a Wii game console and two controllers.
Sept. 15 at approx. 2:08 a.m., answered a call to Flash Foods in reference to a shoplifting. While officers were on the way they received a call from dispatch that the subject had left the store and a description of the vehicle he was in. One of the officers observed the vehicle and stopped it and brought a subject back to the store for identity purposes. After the clerk identified the subject he was transported to the detention center for processing. While being processed a small bag with several pieces of crack cocaine was seized from one of his socks. Charged in connection with this incident was, Chadrick Nikkia Byrd, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of theft by shoplifting, crossing a guard line with drugs and V.G.C.S.A. possession of a controlled substance.
Sept. 15 at approx. 2:24 p.m., answered a call to a Beach Road address in reference to a burglary. On arrival officers met with the complainant whom told them that her home on Holmesville Avenue had been broken into during the night and her ATM card was stolen, and she believed that the subject living at this address was the offender. Investigation into the incident led to the arrest of Mathew Carter, of Baxley, on charges of one count of burglary and two counts of unauthorized use of financial transaction card.
Sept. 21 at approx. 5:40 a.m., answered a call to DynaBody 2000 Fitness Center in reference to a burglary. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had broke out a side window to gain entry and had removed an undetermined amount of currency.
Sept. 21 at approx. 2:10 p.m., answered a call to Citi Trends in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a clerk whom had four subjects detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident were Jamesha Lashai Hampton, Tikela Wynee Robinson, and two juveniles, all of Waycross, on one count each of theft by shoplifting.
Sept. 22 at approx. 3:15 p.m., answered a call to an area on Alpine Drive in reference to someone shooting at a school bus. On arrival the bus driver told officers as she was pulling off from dropping off some students, someone shot two windows on the bus, and that there were still students on board, and were sitting next to the windows. No one was injured during this incident. Investigation into the incident led to the arrest of two juveniles, both of Baxley, on charges of nine counts aggravated assault. Both juveniles were detained pending further judicial proceedings.
Sept. 22 at approx. 6:20 p.m., answered a call to Baxley Beverage in reference to a shoplifting. On arrival the clerk told officers that a subject had come in and took a 12-ounce can of beer and left without paying for it. After the officers got a description of the subject and were scanning the area for the offender, they received another call to go back to the store that the offender had returned. Officers arrived back to the store where the subject, Kenneth Bruce Edwards, Jr., was placed in custody on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Sept. 23 at approx. 8:45 a.m., answered a call to the Appling County High School to meet with the SRO in reference to an assault incident he was working. On arrival the SRO told officers that a student had assaulted another student while weight lifting. A brief investigation into the incident, led to Davante Zarett Johnson, of Baxley, being charged with one count each of disorderly conduct and battery.
Sept. 23 at approx. 9:45 p.m., answered a call to the Back in the Dog House business in reference to a robbery. On arrival the complainant told officers that after he closed his business, he walked out the back door, where he was approached by a w/m, wanting something to eat. And about that time, someone came up from the rear of him, sprayed him with something and then struck him knocking him down. The suspects then robbed him of his cash box and fled the area on foot. A description the complainant gave the officers was broadcast to other responding units, and the area was scanned, but no one fitting the description was located.
Sept. 24 at approx. 11:22 p.m., answered a call to the Pavilion in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that sometime over the evening hours person(s) unknown entered her office and removed an undetermined amount of currency from her purse.
Sept. 25 at approx. 8:00 a.m., met with a worker at the Ernest J. Parker Park Community Center in reference to damage to property. On arrival the worker told officers that person(s) unknown during the night had broken out an outside windowpane on one of the double-paned windows on the community center.
