The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past several days.
On Oct. 27 at approximately 5:02 p.m. officers answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this theft was Heather Nichole Hartley, age 28, of McRae, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Oct. 30 at approx. 8:00 a.m., met with the SRO officer at the Appling County High School in reference to an assault. On arrival the officers upon meeting with the SRO and a student he had detained, discovered that the student had become disorderly at school and while the principal was attempting to calm the situation the student pushed him. Arrested in connection with this incident was Chatia Thomas, age 18, of Baxley, on charges of one count simple assault.
Nov. 2 at approx. 8:25 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this theft was Angel Barrera Chavez, age 34, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Nov. 4 at approx. 11:00 a.m., met with a resident at a Ben Carter address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that when she got home from work she discovered that person(s) unknown had pried a door open to her home and removed an undetermined amount of currency.
Nov. 4 at approx. 3:35 p.m., answered a call to the Appling County Primary School in reference to a suspicious person around the school grounds. On arrival the person was gone. Investigation into the complaint led to the person’s identity and address. The person was identified and lived a short distance from the school. Officers explained to him about the protocols he needed to follow not only for his safety but also for the kids at school.
Nov. 5 at 1:03 p.m., met with a resident at a Tippins Street address in reference to a subject forcing his way into her home and then attempted to assault her. The resident was able to force the subject out of her home, where he fled from the scene on foot. Officers, after getting a description of the subject and direction of his travel, were able to detain a subject until the resident could identify him as the offender. Charged in this incident is Alfredo Rodriguez, 37, of Baxley, on charges of one count each of public intoxication, obstruction of a police officer and sexual battery.
Nov. 9 at approx. 5:24 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this theft was Teresa Ann Teston, 46, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Nov. 10 at approx. 10:10 p.m., met with a complainant at Traditions in reference to a damage to a property incident. On arrival the complainant told officers that while she was inside Traditions, person(s) unknown keyed down both the sides of her 2003 Ford Escape, black in color.
Nov. 13 approx. 2:20 p.m., met with a resident at a Pine Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had taken some speakers and a matching amp from his home. The complainant told officers that he had looked around for them and discovered his missing items at the Pawn Express on West Parker Street. Investigation led to the identity of the person who pawned the stolen items. The items were released back to the owner and Troy Commander McKenzie, 22, of Baxley, was charged with one count of theft by receiving stolen property in this incident.
Nov. 13 at approx. 5:16 p.m., answered a call to Citi Trends in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with a clerk whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this theft was Jasmine Sharde Knox, 18, of Hazlehurst, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Nov. 16 at approx. 12:40 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this theft was Omar Morales, 17, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Nov. 18 at approx. 11:03 a.m., met with a resident at an East Allen Street address in reference to a damage to property incident. On arrival the resident told officers that he was backing out from behind the house when he struck a gas pipe line causing it to break and release gas into the air. The neighborhood was secured and the neighbors were evacuated for their safety. The officers set up traffic control, along with assisting fire department officers, while they set up safety hoses and secured the scene until the gas company could arrive and secure the gas leak. No one was hurt in this incident and the complainant’s vehicle received only slight damage.
Nov. 18 at approx. 3:40 p.m., answered a call to the Baxley Beauty Supply in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the complainant whom related to them that a subject had taken some items and left without paying for them. After a brief investigation the officers learned of the subject’s name and location. In just a few minutes the officer had the subject detained and identified by the complainant. Arrested in connection with this theft was Mary Kathryne Bryant, 23, of Alma, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
Nov. 20 at approx. 1:58 a.m., met with a resident at a Jones Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered his home and removed a Compaq desktop computer and accessories and a JVC stereo with speakers.
