Bids opened for police cars

The Baxley City Council approved the recommended low bids for two police patrol vehicles for the Baxley Police Department during the regular council meeting on Oct. 27. Tim Varnadore made a motion to accept the low bid for $25,460.00 for Chevy Tahoe Police Package Pursuit vehicle given by Hardy Chevrolet, Dallas, GA and the low bid for a price of $20,474.00 for a Chevy Impala Police Package Pursuit vehicle from Cothern-Varndore in Baxley (local vendor). The motion carried unanimously.

Two public hearings were set for Nov. 11 for request for annexation. The first request for annexation to be heard at 6:00 p.m. will be for 218 Woodlawn Church Road to be zoned a R-12 and following an annexation request for 630 Hundreds Road to be zoned a BR-1.

Mayor Pro Tem report

Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Esco Hall reported that he attended several meetings this month. He attended the FEMA drill, the Appling County Planning Retreat, training session for the RDC and Executive Board members meeting of the Concerted Services on Oct 26.

City manager report

-The manager announced that the planning retreat that was held Oct. 16 and Oct. 17 and the meetings were good. While at the retreat they went over some accomplishments that were completed last year and also made new plans to accomplish.

A closed session was held after the meeting for ongoing litigation and potential litigation. No action was taken.
