According to Appling County Sheriff Benny Deloach on June 24 deputies and emergency personnel answered a call to East River Road in reference to a three-wheeler accident. Upon arrival on the scene, Terry Mincey advised he was passing by a residence and noticed a three-wheeler was over turned on Mrs. Linda Gay. Gay was transported to Appling Emergency Room and later died at approximately midnight. Investigation revealed that Gay was trying to pull a lawnmower with a three-wheeler and the three-wheeler overturned on her.

Other incidents

On June 20, answered a call to Clements Lane in reference to a domestic. The dispute was between a boyfriend and girlfriend. The boyfriend left the residence.

June 20, answered a call to Old Ben Carter Road in reference to a prowler. An unknown person attempted to push in a window of a residence. Upon arrival of officer, the person had left the area.

June 21, answered a call to Gardenia Circle in reference to a domestic. The altercation was between acquaintances. The offender had left the scene before the responding officer arrived.

June 21, answered a call to Sellers Road in reference to damage to property. The driver’s side of front window was busted. No tire or footprints were around vehicle. Window may have busted due to extreme temperatures.

June 21, answered a call to Piney Bluff Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated the back window of a vehicle was broken by a friend that threw a beer bottle at the vehicle.

June 22, answered a call to John Lewis Lane in reference to damage to property. The complainant stated a neighbor was cutting grass and rock came from the lawn mower shattering the passenger side of his vehicle.

June 22, answered a call to Cattle Gap Lane in reference to fraud identity. A complainant stated an unknown person attempted to obtain a credit card in his deceased father’s name.

June 23, answered a call to Cook Street in reference to a possible overdose. When the officer arrived on the scene, the complainant stated a victim had taken a number of Phenobarbital. Victim was taken to Appling ER by Appling EMS.

June 23, a complainant called sheriff’s office to report an identity theft. Investigation revealed that the brother of the complainant used his identity to purchase a vehicle. Lance Newkirk, age 20, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with financial identity fraud.

June 24, answered a call to Alpine Drive in reference to threats. Threats were made by a husband and the wife stated she wanted a divorce.

June 25, dispatch called a deputy to the residence to 39 Clyde Road in reference to a welfare check. Upon entering the residence Alvin Behar was found dead from an apparent heart attack. The death was investigated by the Appling County Sheriff’s Office and the Appling County Coroner.

June 25, during a routine check at the North Side Park, Danny Leon Hood, age 18, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana. Hood has since been release on bond.

June 26, answered a call to Landing Road in reference to a domestic. The disturbance was between a husband and wife. Sheila Carter, age 39, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

June 26, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report a theft on Satilla Church Road. An unknown person(s) took a payroll check from a mailbox. Investigation continues.

June 26, answered a call to Cook Street in reference to an attempted suicide. The victim stated she wanted to kill herself, and took a handful of pills. Victim was taken to Appling ER. This victim has attempted this several times before.
