The following are highlights of incidents handled by the Appling County Sheriff’s Office over the past few days.
On April 22, a routine traffic stop of a motorcycle on South Main/Bay Street led to the arrest of David Scott Neu, 33, of Baxley. Neu was charged with littering, possession of marijuana and possession of a drug related object.
April 23, a routine traffic stop on U.S. Hwy. 1 South led to the arrest of Gregory Lance Smith, 28, of Denton, and Jesse James Reynolds, 17, of Hazlehurst. Smith was charged with possession of marijuana, DUI/drugs/alcohol and failure to maintain lane. Reynolds was charged with open container in vehicle and furnishing, purchasing and possession of an alcoholic beverage below the legal age.
April 23, answered a call to Deen’s Landing Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated someone had pried open a shop door on her property and took approximately $5,750.00 worth of items. Investigation continues.
April 23, answered a call to Foster Steadham Road in reference to an aggressive dog.
April 23, answered a call to Prentiss Road in reference to a dispute. The complainant stated her estranged husband came to her residence and took several of her belongings. Complainant was advised of her legal rights.
April 23, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report alleged child molestation. After an investigation Juan Lara, 41, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with child molestation.
April 23, answered a call to Red Oak Road in reference to a damaged vehicle. The complainant stated his vehicle was parked in the parking lot of his employer, when getting off work, he found the back glass to his vehicle was busted.
April 23, answered a call to Golden Isles West in reference to a domestic. The complainant stated she saw a female driving a green jeep trying to run over a male subject. The female stated she had been arguing with her boyfriend. The male subject left the scene before an officer arrived. The female subject was charged with reckless driving due to marks left in the roadway.
April 24, answered a call to Iron Man Bluff in reference to an unresponsive subject. Neal Harvey Burke, 62, of Baxley, was found deceased. The coroner was notified.
April 25, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report harassing phone calls. The complainant stated she received phone calls asking her name and where she was located. The complainant stated she did not know who the caller was and she blocked the number.
