The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past couple of weeks.
June 6 at approximately 7:00 a.m., answered a call to RB Pump in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed a blue in color Miller 400P welding machine from his shop. The stolen welder has been entered in the GCIC computer network as being stolen.
Thefts, arrests, drowning highlighted
June 8 at approximately 12:46, met with a resident at an Anthony Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was gone, person(s) unknown had entered her home and removed a Play Station 2 game, a Play Station console, various assorted items of clothing, fifteen DVD’s, seven Play Station games and some women’s boots, along with a 2003 orange in color Suzuki motorcycle. Following an investigation into this theft, it led to some of the items including the motorcycle being recovered. Arrested in connection with this incident was Roy Adkins, 47, of Baxley, on one count burglary and Hazel Strickland, 36, also of Baxley, on one count each of burglary and theft by taking.
June 9 at approx. 10:29 a.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to some counterfeit money. On arrival officers met with a clerk who told officers that a subject had attempted to pay for some merchandise with a $20.00 dollar bill, and that when it was checked it was discovered to be fake. The bill was seized and placed into evidence pending further investigation by the secret service. The serial number on the counterfeit $20.00 dollar bill was IL84570519B.
June 11 at approx. 8:30 p.m., met with a complainant at Stipes Car Wash in reference to some missing property. On arrival the complainant told officers that he was cleaning his truck and that he had taken his fishing pole a seven foot, six inch Ugly Stick with Symmetric 2500 reel out of the back of the truck and placed in against the wall. He said he left, and remembered the rod and reel and when he went back to the car wash and it was gone.
June 13 at approx. 10:38 a.m., answered a call to the Pines Trailer Park in reference to a suspicious person. On arrival the subject was pointed out to the officers, then the officers detained the person for investigative purposes during which the officers seized a small amount bag of marijuana from the subject. Arrested in connection with this seizure was Gary Lee Sellers, 29, of Hazlehurst, on charges of one count possession of marijuana.
June 13 at approx. 2:01 p.m., met with a complainant at McDonald’s in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that while she was inside, person(s) unknown removed three 50 pound bags of cow feed from the back of her truck.
June 13 at approx. 5:00 p.m., met with a resident of a Speer Street apartment in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had removed her purse from out of her car sometime during the night. The purse is described as black and white in color, with a brown wallet inside, which contained several papers and an undetermined amount of currency.
June 14 at approx. 8:09 a.m., responded to a call along with the EMS unit to an address on Troupe Street in reference to a female being shot. On arrival officers went to the address, where they discovered that the female was not shot and did not make the call. After further investigation, Calvin Jackson, 52, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with one count of making a false report of a crime.
June 14 at approx. 7:02 p.m., met with a complainant at a Blackshear Highway address in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that while he was working on his lawn mower, person(s) unknown stole his bicycle. The bicycle is described as a Next brand, camouflaged 26-inch bike.
June 16 at approx. 2:20 p.m., met with a complainant at an East Parker address in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed his 1999 home trailer that was parked at the back of the property. The trailer is described as being 24 foot, three axles with six tires. It had a GA plate of 3611GJ. The trailer serial number has been entered on the GCIC computer network as stolen.
June 16 at approx. 4:21 p.m., made a traffic stop on a vehicle for a seat belt violation. During the stop and a consent search, several items of drug paraphernalia were seized. Arrested in connection with this seizure was Jessica Lynne Andreu, 22, of Baxley, on charges of one count seatbelt violation and possession/use of a drug related object.
June 16 at approx. 11:06 p.m., were dispatched to an area on South Main Street for a suspicious person behind one of the businesses. On arrival the officers searched the area and found no one and while searching the area, they were notified by a deputy that he had located the subject. The officers assisted the deputy with the subject. After a consent to search, officers seized a bag containing approximately 45 grams of marijuana from the subject. Arrested in connection with this seizure was Norris Moreco Pearsey, 33, of Baxley, on charges of one count possession of marijuana more than an ounce.
June 17 at approx. 3:20 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter who had threatened employees with a knife. On arrival the officers met with the L.P.C. officer who told the officers the subject had taken some items and did not pay for them and when he was confronted by store employees he took out a knife and threatened them after which he left the store and fled the scene in a silver Pontiac Grand Am with a female driving. A lookout was posted to other units for the subject and the vehicle. On June 18 two arrests were made in connection with the June 17 incident at Wal-Mart. Arrested was Steven Williams, 32, of Baxley, on charges of two counts of aggravated assault and one count theft by shoplifting and Marina Gail Morris, 18, also of Baxley, on one count party to a crime.
June 19 at approx. 9:43 p.m., officers were dispatched to a Jones Street address in reference to a welfare check on the resident. On arrival the neighbors told officers that they were concerned about the resident’s welfare, because they had not seen her all day, which was not common. The officers attempted to gain entry into the home, but found the dead bolts on, but the door was unlocked. After several attempts to make contact with someone with a key for the officers to get in, officers physically opened the door. Once inside they found the resident lying in the bathroom breathing but unresponsive to them. The EMS was called to the scene where the resident was transported to the Appling County Hospital for treatment.
June 20 at approx. 8:35 a.m., answered a call to Flash Foods in reference to some counterfeit money. On arrival the clerk told officers that they had taken in a counterfeit $20.00 dollar bill sometime during the night and when it was checked it was discovered to be counterfeit. The bill has a serial number of IL84570519B. This bill has the same serial number as the one passed at Wal-Mart on June 9.
June 20 at approx. 10:22 a.m., answered a call to Courson’s Paint and Body Shop in reference to a theft. On arrival the owner told officers that sometime during the night person(s) unknown had entered the fenced in yard and removed a light blue 2002 Saturn SL1 four-door sedan that he was working on for a customer. The missing vehicle had a GA tag of ANH7281 on it. The vehicle has been entered on the GCIC computer network as stolen.
June 22 at approx. 7:35 a.m., answered a call to Foster Rowland’s in reference to a theft. On arrival the owner told officers that person(s) unknown had removed a rear tire from a 2004 Impala that was sitting on the lot. The tire was a Uniroyal 225R16.
June 22 at approx. 9:57 a.m., met with a complainant at the Progressive Club in reference to property damage. On arrival the officers met with the complainant who told them that person(s) unknown had busted in an inner door, damaging the door jam and door face. Nothing was reported missing at report time.
June 22 at approx. 10:53 p.m., answered a call to a Lackawanna Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that they observed a suspicious female take mail out of a mailbox and walk off. The officers searched the area and located the female with the mail. When the officers attempted to detain the female subject to investigate the complaint she became violent and combative, resulting in the officers having to deploy the taser in attempts to affect an arrest. The taser had little to no effect on the subject, resulting in the officers having to physically restrain her, during which she kicked one of the officers in the chest while still resisting arrest. Arrested in the incident was Shelia Bray, 42, of Baxley, on charges of obstruction of a police officer and theft by taking.
June 23 at approx. 5:03 a.m., responded to Southern Express where they observed the rear door busted out. The officers secured the scene, finding no one there, and notified the key holder. After reviewing surveillance tapes a subject was identified as the one who broke into the business. Arrested in connection with this burglary was Frank Parker, Jr., 52, of Baxley, on charges of one count burglary.
June 23 at approx. 5:00 p.m., met with city workers in reference to several signs being spray-painted. The workers reported that they had to replace several stop signs which had been spray painted with black spray paint and contained some type of graffiti on them over the past days. The signs were in the areas of Moody, Simmons, Spruce, Highland Drive, Tollison, Jones and Carter Streets.
June 24 at approx. 4:05 p.m., answered a call to an area on Beach Road in reference to a female knocking on doors. On arrival the officers located the subject and after a brief interview and consent to search a pill bottle containing some assorted pills was seized. Arrested in connection with this incident was Rebecca Leigh Mann, 26, of Baxley, on charges of one-count pills not in the original container.
June 24 at approx. 11:24 a.m., answered a call to a Canal Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the officers met with the resident who told them that while they were gone person(s) unknown had entered her home and rummaged through some drawers and stole her 52 inch HDTV flat screen TV, and some jewelry items. Investigation led to the subject’s identity when he pawned the items at a local pawnshop. Arrested in connection with this incident was Edward Chuck Carter, 18, of Baxley, on charges of one count burglary.
June 26 at approx. 7:15 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival the officers met with the L.P.C. officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this theft was Izona Natasha Williams, 30, of Surrency, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
June 28 at approx. 6:17 p.m., met with a clerk at Family Dollar in reference to some counterfeit money. On arrival the clerk told officers that they had taken in a $10.00 dollar bill, and when they checked it discovered it to be counterfeit. The bill has a serial number of 1C08418667A.
July 1 at approx. 10:15 a.m., met with city workers in reference to several stop signs being down. The workers told officers that several stop signs had been pulled up and laid down at the corners of Edgerton and Simmons Street. Anyone with any information in regards to this activity is urged to contact the police department as this type of behavior causes a safety issue to motorists.
July 1 at approx. 11:04 a.m., met with a complainant at the housing authority in reference to some signs being down. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had taken down several signs within the housing projects.
July 2 at approx. 4:51 a.m., answered a call to a resident on MLK Avenue in reference to a home invasion. On arrival the resident told officers that she was asleep and was awaken by three black male subjects, with one of them having a gun and started beating her. The resident told the officers that they tied her up and took her wallet with an undetermined amount of currency. The resident reported that the subjects also took her camera and a Play Station 3 and several games.
July 2 at approx. 3:21 p.m., received a call to assist the EMS at a Fair Street address. On arrival the officers assisted the EMS with a small child, age 6, who was lying on the wooden deck next to the swimming pool and was unresponsive. The child was transported to Appling Healthcare where she later died. The coroner was contacted, where the body was released to him to be sent to the state crime lab for further investigative purposes.
July 3 at approx. 9:27 p.m., answered a call to Southeastern System Technology in reference to an alarm going off. On arrival the officers secured the building and waited for the arrival of the key holder. The key holder arrived and checked the business, discovering that a locked container had been broken into and some of the wire was missing. After further investigation two arrests were made in connection with the burglary. Arrested were Johnathan Turner, 22, and Larry William Mock, 24, both of Baxley, and both for one count burglary each.
July 5 at approx. 7:00 p.m., met with a resident at an Idell Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had stole her bicycle from the backyard area. The bike is described as an 18-inch black in color Roadmaster with high handlebars and a big seat.
