On June 27 the Baxley-Appling County Hospital Authority met for a regular monthly meeting. In attendance were board members Jesse Alderman, Greg Black, Donnie Head, Peggy Miles, Julie Scarborough, Jeffery Simmons and James Twiggs. Staff present included CEO Dale Spell, ICFO Farrell Turner, COO/CNO Joyce Alderman, Director of Marketing Robin Crosby, Director Pharmacy Terri Westberry and Board and Medical Staff Coordinator Tina Johnson. Guests present at the meeting were County Manager Lee Lewis and Commissioner Jasper Tomberlin.
Chairman Miles called the meeting to order at 5:10 PM. She led those present in the Pledge of Allegiance and rendered the invocation. Minutes and financials were approved and reports given from nursing/operations and long term care.
Spell gave a status report on the hospitalist program. He stated that he is very pleased at how well the program is going. By moving to the hospitalist model the patients are benefiting by having a physician at the hospital 12 hours a day. Much of the lag time is being eliminated from the patient’s stay. Nurses do not have to call physicians offices to have questions answered. They do not have to wait for return calls. The entire process is being made more efficient.
Jesse Alderman, Chairman of the Publicity Committee, along with Robin Crosby, Director of Marketing and Education presented an advertising project to the board that would allow a tabloid size booklet delivered to every household in Appling and Jeff Davis counties promoting the system.
Julie Scarborough was recognized for her years of service to the authority and presented a gift of appreciation. Scarborough’s current term expired June 30. Randy Kimbrel also completed his last term as a member of the authority on June 30, but was not able to attend the meeting.
Lisa Courson and Carolyn Wade who are both authority members-elect attended the meeting as visitors. They will be sworn in at the July meeting of the hospital authority to begin their three year terms.
The board then entered executive session to discuss items of an exempt nature. The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
