Sheriff Benny Deloach reports the following incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Office over the past few days.
On January 9, a routine traffic stop on MLK Avenue resulted in the arrest of Kenneth L. Teston, 25, of Baxley. Teston was charged with driving while tag is suspended and VGCS/marijuana.
Jan. 11, answered a call to Hwy. 341 in reference to an abandoned vehicle in the roadway. The owner of vehicle could not be located and the vehicle was towed due to public safety.
Jan. 11, answered a call to Lake Mayers Road in reference to harassment. The complainant stated her estranged husband continues to come to her residence repeatedly after being told not to return. The complainant was advised of legal action she could take.
Jan. 11, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a scam. The complainant stated he went on the internet to Okcupid and was talking with a female subject stating she was eighteen. A supposed father contacted the complainant telling him he had to pay a doctor bill of $2,400.00 in order to not press charges against him for contacting his sixteen-year-old daughter who supposedly tried to slit her wrist. Investigation continues.
Jan. 12, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft that occurred on Buckhead Road. The complainant stated stolen from his shelter were four four-wheeler tires valued at approximately $2,300.00. Investigation continues.
Jan. 12, a deputy was trying to serve a probation warrant on a subject. The subject ran and a chase ensued which led to the arrest of Derick Tyrone Edge, 26, of Baxley. Edge was charged with obstruction of an officer.
Jan. 12, answered a call to Cleland Lane in reference to shots fired, which led to the arrest of James Brian Kersey, 40, of Baxley. Kersey was charged with possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
