Miles-Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the funeral services for Rodney G. Herndon, 73, who passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at his residence under the care of his family and Spanish Oaks Hospice.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County and a retired pipefitter of local Union 177 in Brunswick. He was an active member of the Cattleman’s Association and a member and deacon of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Mary Aspinwall Herndon.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Hazel Holland Herndon of Baxley; one daughter, Jan H. Griffis and husband, Matt of Baxley; two sons, Rick Herndon and wife, Ann of Baxley and Mark Herndon and wife, Ashley of Cochran; five grandchildren, Ashley Griffis Perry and husband, Jim, Jake Herndon, Luke Herndon, Taylor Herndon and Mason Herndon; one brother, Glynn Herndon of Odum; one sister, Betty Griffis of Surrency; several nieces, nephews and other family also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Reverend Darrell Quinn and the Reverend J.E. Blanton officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation was held one hour prior to funeral services at the church.
Active pallbearers were Delmus Hale, Sam Coleman, Lamar Turner, Victor Williams, Cole Griffin and Jeff Switzer.
Honorary pallbearers were local Union #177 in Brunswick, Joy Sunday school class and Encouragers Sunday school class.
