Laney Carter, 79, of Pooler, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Hospice Savannah, Inc, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Baxley, April 23, 1932. He was married to Dorothy Foskey, Dec. 8, 1956.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Foskey Carter, of Pooler, and they had four children, Laney Lee Carter of Garden City, Jeffery Allen Carter (Melanie) of Savannah, two daughters, Mary Ann Carter Wilson (Glen) of Pooler and Melissa Carter Hampton (William) of Richmond Hill. He also had eight grandchildren, Mollie and Peyton Carter, Tyler and Erin Wilson, Emily Carter, Will Hampton, Carter Hampton and Taylor Hampton.
He was a member of the Trinity Church of God, and a member of the Sunday School.
He had formerly worked for Certain Teed Roofing, and then worked as a Painting Contractor in Savannah for many years.
He enjoyed fishing with his sons, and he coached his sons in Little League Baseball at Windsor Forest during the 1970’s. He supported his children and grandchildren in all of their activities. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Visitation was held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday, June 17 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Garden City Chapel.
Funeral Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, at Trinity Church of God, with the Rev. Frank Gupton, officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
Mr. Carter was taken to the church at 10:00 a.m. Saturday to lie in state.
