The Appling County Pirates defeated Wayne County 11-7 on April 21. The Pirates next faced Jeff Davis on April 22 but came up short losing 4-8. The Pirates ended the week facing Jenkins High on April 23 with the third seed in Region 1-AAA up for grabs. The Pirates were able to get the win 10-2.
The Pirates will begin the State Playoffs on Friday, May 1 by traveling to Macon to face Region 2 second seed Rutland High in a double-header beginning at 2:00 p.m. The state playoffs are double elimination so a third game will be played on Saturday, May 3 if needed.

All-around effort leads the Pirates past Jenkins 10-2
Mason Parker came up big at the dish and on the rubber, leading the Pirates to a 10-2 win over Jenkins on Thursday.
Parker racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Pirates. He doubled in the third inning.
Parker was in control on the hill. Parker held Jenkins hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out four.
The Pirates beat Jenkins thanks to seven hits, including two extra base hits. The Pirates scored five runs in the third on the Pirates scored in the third on an RBI single by Will Shumans, an RBI double by Parker, a two-run double by Nick Spell, and an error.
Stacy Davis recorded the win for the Appling County Pirates Varsity. He allowed one run over four innings. Davis struck out two, walked one and gave up five hits.
Number 9 took the loss for Jenkins. He allowed nine runs in three and two thirds innings, walked four and struck out none.
The Pirates jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Skylar Branch kicked things off for the Pirates with a single. A stolen base then moved Branch from first to second.
The Pirates piled on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. A sacrifice fly scored Cody Thomas to start the scoring in the inning.
The Pirates surrender seventh inning lead to Jeff Davis in 8-4 defeat
A tight game was decided in the seventh inning as the Pirates fell to Jeff Davis 8-4 in seven innings on Wednesday.
Nick Spell racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Pirates. He tripled in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.
Cody Oglvie got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed four runs over seven innings. Oglvie struck out two, walked one and gave up 10 hits.
Jeff Davis was sparked by Tanner Wright and Oglvie, who teamed up for four hits and four RBIs.
Price Eason was the game’s losing pitcher. He allowed eight runs in four and one third innings, walked one and struck out one.
The Pirates broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning, pushing across fourth. The Pirates scored on a two-run triple by Spell.
The lead stayed with Jeff Davis after the seventh, when it scored five runs on two doubles and an RBI single by Justin Kight.
The Pirates beat Wayne County 11-7
Micah Rentz collected three hits as the Pirates took home an 11-7 victory over Wayne County in seven innings on Tuesday. He singled in the first, fifth, and sixth innings.
Rentz got the win for the Appling County Pirates Varsity. He allowed three runs over four innings. He struck out four, walked three and surrendered six hits.
Z Mainor took the loss for Wayne County. He allowed seven runs in four and one third innings, walked three and struck out five.
Wayne County jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Wayne County’s offense woke up as P Phillips singled before Jd Paul singled, bringing home P Phillips. Wayne County added more runs when Keith scored on a fielder’s choice.
The game was never in doubt after the first, as the Pirates scored five runs on an error and two singles.
After pushing across one run in the top of the third, Wayne County faced just a 6-3 deficit. A sacrifice fly by Roberson triggered Wayne County’s comeback. Rentz ended the inning by getting Mainor to ground out.
The Pirates built upon their lead with five runs in the fifth. A passed ball scored Tyler Adams to start the scoring in the inning.
Four runs in the top of the sixth helped Wayne County close its deficit to 11-7. A two-run single by P Phillips, a bases loaded walk by Jake Britt, and an RBI single by C Martin fueled Wayne County’s comeback. Finally, Price Eason induced an inning-ending ground out from Roberson.
