Funeral services were held Saturday, April 30 for Edon “Tubbs” Cray, who died Friday, April 22, 2011. The services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul C.O.G.I.C., Surrency with Elder Bryan Holmes presiding. Eulogy was given by Supt. James Frank Carter.
Elder Edon “Tubbs” Cray was born Nov. 13, 1944 to the late John Lee Guest and Rose C. Jones of Baxley. He attended public school in Appling County. Tubbs worked and retired from Great Lakes Dredging & Docking Local Union 25.
At an early age, he attended Rachel Baptist Church later he joined Faith Temple Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Elder C.W. and Moses Smith, after their death he was under leadership of Elder Norris Williams, Sr., until the Lord called him to pastor at Praise Deliverance C.O.G.I.C. until his passing.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Orma Jean Cray. To this union six children were born and two adopted as his own; one preceded him in death: Gray Edon Cray, Stanley B. Cray, Danielle of Suffolk, VA, Daryl (Angela) Cray of Warner Robbins, Angela (Deon) Nails of Baxley, LaDonis (Mandy) Cray of Nicholls, Edon Jr. “Boo” of Baxley, Donnell (Barbara) Cray of Baxley and Twanisha Carter of Baxley; his loving mother, Rose C. Jones; six sisters, Joyce (James) Carter of Baxley, Marie (Larry) Wilson of Miami, FL, Arlene Miller, Donna Clowney, Linda (Stanley) Richards, Sharon (Raymond) Walters, all of Camden, NJ; 11 brothers; three preceded him in death: Bobby Jones, Donnell Cray and Wade Jones; Allen (Bernadette) Cray of Baxley, Charles Jones of Anniston, AL, Jimmy (Deloris) Jones of Baxley, Reginald (Monica) Jones of Baxley, Kenneth (Carolyn) Jones of Baxley, John (Lotia) Guest, William Guest and Edward Guest, all of Camden, NJ; 25 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; also very special aunts, Etha Mae Cray of Baxley and Evalina Arelene of Miami, FL.
Active pallbearers were Travis Carter, Wesley Carter, Malcolm Cray, Anthony Jacobs, Myron Walton, Roy Saliem and Dexter Carter.
Honorary pallbearers were Great Lake Dredging Company and Praise Deliverance Church of God In Christ.
The District Choir, Alieka Luckett and Janice Rogers rendered musical selections.
Arrangements were under the direction of Baxley Funeral Home.
