Ronnie Evans Thornton, 62, of Baxley, died Thursday, June 26, 2014.
Thornton was born June 13, 1952 in Appling County to the late Evans Thornton and the late Odell Williams Thornton. He was a member of Carter’s Chapel Church of God of Prophecy. Thornton was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Francis Thornton and Gloria Faye “Dinky” Thornton.
Survivors include his wife, Molly Thornton of Baxley; two daughters, April David of Bradenton, Florida, Amy Denney of Baxley and two step daughters, Jennifer Reeves of Baxley and Beth Johnson of Bradenton, Florida; one son, Ronald Thornton of Bradenton, Florida and step-son, Robert Plumb of Michigan City, Indiana; one sister, Oline Eason of Baxley; six brothers, Willie Harold Thornton, Frank Thornton, Donnie Thornton, Bobby Gene Thornton, Kenny Thornton and Alton Thornton, all of Baxley. Twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Andrew Kersey and the Rev. Virgil Carter officiating.
Interment followed in Thornton Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Robby Thornton, Kyle Thornton, Colby Thornton, Bobby Chambers III, Van Harris and Kenneth “Corkey” Thornton, Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers were the Maintenance Shop and Lawter Employees Tyler Jackson, Casey Reeves, Marvin Williams, Spanish Oaks Hospice and all friends and family in attendance.
Visitation was held Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
