Russell Homer Sharpe, 59, of Baxley, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Athens Regional Health System in Athens. Sharpe was born, August 30, 1954, in Baxley to the late Homer Aaron and Mattie Ruth Sharpe. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Sharpe and his sister, Annette Sharpe Stone. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Sharpe was employed by Americord in Hazlehurst before retirement and enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables to share with his friends and neighbors.
Survivors include his son – Joshua Sharpe of Hazlehurst; two sisters, Linda (Raymond) Beasley of Eatonton, and Juanita (David) Durrance of Roberta and one sister-in-law, Jean Sharpe of Baxley. Russell is also survived by several special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and family members.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 2, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Swain Funeral Home. The Rev. Eddie Shumate and the Rev. Ben Defore officiated.
Musical selections were by Conner Aaron Evans
Interment followed in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Mickey Morris, Earnest Dyal, Clifton Mincey, Winston Mincey, Byron Carter, Curtis Stone, Mike Todd, and Kenny Upchurch.
Honorary pallbearers were all friends in attendance.
Visitation was Sunday evening, June 1, 2014, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
