Kyler Roy Herrington is the son of Suzanne and Jeff Herrington. Kyler has an older sister, Morgan, who is a junior at Valdosta State University. Kyler and his family are members of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. Kyler has been a speaker for several churches and youth rallies in the community. Kyler was honored as a Light of Hope award recipient in 2009 by Tri-County CASA.
After seven years of martial arts training with Corky Sikes, in Jesup, Kyler was awarded his black belt in 2008. While attending ACHS, Kyler has been a member of Science Club for four years, and has served two years as co-president. He has been a member of TSA for three years, and served as secretary, vice-president, and president. As a member of TSA, Kyler participated on the Vex robotics team. Kyler was a member of the Appling Envirothon team for four years. Kyler has also competed with the math team. Kyler has competed in the Science Quiz Bowl, Science Olympiad, and the ACHS National Ocean Science Bowl Team.
He has been a member of FCA for two years, and served as a Huddle Leader. As a member of FCA, Kyler has assisted with Special Olympics training, the annual FCA banquet, and spoke at the first annual Fields of Faith.
In his freshman year, Kyler received the Honors Physical Science award, the Honors literature award, and the Math I award.
As a sophomore, Kyler received the Honors World Literature award and the Math IV award.
In his junior year, Kyler received the AP calculus award, Honors Chemistry award, AP US History award, University of Georgia Certificate of Merit, and the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award. Kyler was also selected as a finalist for the 50th annual Governor’s Honors Program, and he was one of thirty students in the state selected for the Governor’s Honors Program in the area of chemistry in 2013.
As a senior, Kyler attended Valdosta State University during the fall semester as a dual enrolled ACCEL student. Kyler was named the ACHS STAR student for earning the highest SAT score. Kyler was named the local Exchange Club Youth of the Month and the Exchange Club Youth of the Year. Kyler received a University of Georgia Charter Scholarship, the Linda Goodwin Volunteer Scholarship, the Pilot Club Scholarship, Exchange Club Scholarship, TSA Club Scholarship, and Beta Club Scholarship. Recently at Senior Honors Night, Kyler was awarded department awards for math, science, and AP Literature. He received the Presidential Award of Excellence and AP Gold Scholar Award (for successfully completing five AP classes). Kyler also received the Math Cup and Science Cup.
After graduation, Kyler will attend the University of Georgia where he has been accepted into the Honors Program. Kyler plans to major in biology and later pursue a career in the medical field. He is very grateful for the encouragement and generosity of his family, friends, and local community.
