James Alfonso Hendrix, Jr., 57, of Jesup, died Friday, May 6, 2011 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup. James was born May 19, 1953 in Dade County to Mary Jane Hamker Hendrix and the late James Alfonso Hendrix, Sr. He was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He had previously attended the Appling County Sunshine Center and has been a resident of Wayne County for the past 15 years.
Survivor include his mother, Mary Jane Hendrix of Jesup; three sisters, Brenda Edwards of Rockford, IL, Susan Bedard and Barbara Dawson, both of Ocala, FL; two brothers, Fred Hendrix of Little Rock, AK and David Hendrix of Homestead, FL; sister-in-law, Gail Barnes of Jesup; two special care givers, Earline Filmore and Angie Worth, both of Jesup.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 9 at Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Appling County with the Revs. Steve Hughes, Virgil Carter and Brian Davis officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Timothy Dale Hendrix, Rusty Barnes, Johnny Metts and Stan Harris.
Honorary pallbearers were Appling-Jeff Davis Service Center, Wayne Service Center, staff of Altamaha Healthcare Nursing Home, Dr. Ross Goehing, Dr. Robert Pumpelly IV and Dr. John Garrett.
Musical selections were rendered by Khrista O. Hurst.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
