Kara Clark
Kara Clark named ACHS Valedictorian
Kara Clark, Valedictorian of the Class of 2011, is the daughter of James and Melanie Clark. Kara has been active in various organizations throughout her high school career including Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Science Club, Math Team, Spanish Club, 4-H, and Beta Club. She has enjoyed helping with Special Olympics, the Secret Angel Project, and Sunshine Center visits. She has been a Goal Card recipient all four years of high school. During her senior year, Kara was the Beta Club President, alto section leader in chorus, and leader of the Appling Applause Show Choir. She has worked diligently in school, maintaining the highest average in her class each year.
Kara’s biggest involvements in high school have been the ACHS Cheerleading Squad and the Appling Applause Show Choir. She has cheered all four years of high school and has participated in show choir for three years. Her freshman year, she was a captain of the JV Cheerleading Squad, and her competition squad placed 4th in region and went to state her sophomore year. In show choir, she danced and sang at multiple competitions and events. The show choir won Grand Champions at the Hub City Competition her junior year. This past January, she had the privilege of receiving 4th place at the Capital City Classic Competition in Alabama. Her dance, singing, and leadership skills were greatly affected when she attended Show Choir Camps of America in Decatur, Illinois in the summer of 2010; she returned to her show choir with much excitement and great new ideas. Kara also had delight in singing for Relay for Life, the Cancer Survivor’s Banquet, and the Mayor’s Breakfast with other choir members. She mentioned how it touched her to be able to bring joy to other’s lives through song.
Apart from school, Kara has played the violin for civic groups (Arts Council, Lions Club, etc.), weddings, and church functions. She began taking lessons when she was in the 6th grade, and she has kept it up since. Her love for music shines in the community when she enlightens others with her playing. Also, Kara has been a loyal employee at Jada’s for two years. Her job assignments include waiting on customers, cleaning the store when needed, putting new inventory in, and just having fun.
Kara is an active member of First Baptist Church. Each year, the church hosts Walk Through Bethlehem, which portrays the Christmas story. At this function, Kara played Christmas carols on the violin, acted as Mary the Mother of Jesus, and played a role in the salt shop when needed. Her main role as Mary exemplifies her character perfectly. Kara is involved with the youth group at Christ Community Church. She and other members of the youth group had the privilege of attending the Passion conference in Atlanta, and Kara was overwhelmed by her experience. She returned from the conference excited to tell her friends and family about her life-changing experience.
All her time spent working for the community and our school has earned her many awards. Her ninth grade year she received the Algebra II, Honors Physical Science, and Foundation of Family awards. As a sophomore she earned the Honors World Literature, Honors Biology, Euclid Geometry, and President’s awards. Her junior year she was awarded the U.S. History, Honors Chemistry, and Trigonometry awards. She also had the honor of receiving the Georgia Certificate of Merit, Governor’s Honor’s Program in math, Presbyterian College Academic Achievement, Wellesley College Book, Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science, and Appling Applause Outstanding Junior awards. Kara was picked in her senior class to be the DAR Good Citizen, and she was able to compete for a scholarship. Her classmates chose her to be on the Homecoming Court and voted her “Most Intellectual” and “Most Likely to Succeed.” Because of her future plans, Kara will surely succeed. She plans to attend Berry College where she will major in Biology. After her years at Berry are completed, she wants to major in either occupational or physical therapy.
