Joseph Franklin (J.F.) Griffin, Sr., 71, of Baxley, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at his residence.
J.F. was born May 22, 1942 in Appling County and was the son of the late Frank Griffin and the late Mary Idell Leggett Griffin. He was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church. Griffin retired from Local 709 Structural Ironworkers. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carroll Ray Griffin and Johnny Israel Griffin.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Dianne Roberson Griffin of Baxley; one daughter, Becky Griffin Murray of Baxley; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Pam Griffin of Martinez; six sisters, Wilma Sweatt, Wanell Parker, Janie Batten, all of Alma, Maxie Martin of Waynesboro, Kay Moore and Charlotte Gruber both of Alma; and a brother, Henry Griffin of Waynesboro. Five grandchildren, Houston Griffin, Hannah Griffin, Alannah Griffin, Brock Murray, Jamie Murray and special friend his dog, Jay.
Funeral services were Sunday, March 30 at 3:00 p.m. from Red Oak Baptist Church with the reverends Ron Ross, Owen Waters, Robbie Gill and Daniel Harris officiating. Griffin lay in state one hour prior to funeral service.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jeffery Griffin, Michael John Griffin, Tim Sweatt, Justin Moore, Jordan Roberson, Brett Aycock, Matt Gardner and Stevie Roberson.
Honorary pallbearers were Beverly Johnson, Tim Claxton, Lamar Leggett, Wayne and Irene Lloyd, Travis Gibbs, Gary Leggett, Ellen Black, Lyrissa Smoak, Wright, Whitty, Davis families, Buck and Mary Williams, Robert and Violet Williams, Betty Jo and GM Daniels, Sandra Lewis, David Black, Randy and Angie Branch, Larry Williams, Stacey Williams and members of Local 709.
Musical selections were rendered by Pam Griffin and Elaine Black Edwards.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
