Randall Kelly Bird, 56, of Baxley, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. Bird was born May 21, 1957 in Appling County. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served in various leadership capacities. Bird has been an active member of Boy Scout Troup 472 for 50 years and earned the rank of Eagle Scout and later served as Scout Master for a number of years.
Survivors include his wife, Denise Bird of Baxley; daughter, Rachel Kelly Bird of Baxley; Parents, Claude and Cleora Bird of Baxley; brother, Gary Bird of Baxley; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 28 at 2:00 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim McLendon, the Rev. Thad Harvey and the Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Interment followed in Appling Memorial Gardens. Mr. Bird lay in state one hour prior to funeral service.
Active pallbearers were Brad Rentz, Charles Vann, J.T. Pollock, Matt Jones, Mitch McLean and Brad Park.
Honorary pallbearers were Boy Scout Troup 472
Visitation was Thursday, February 27 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church.
Musical selections were rendered by Chelsei Norris and Brandi Harvey.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Boy Scout Troup 472 c/o First United Methodist Church 217 South Main Street, Baxley, Ga. 31513.
