Nelda T. Somers, age 84, of Vidalia, died Sunday, November 10, 2013 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native of Haleyville, Alabama and lived there until moving to Georgia in 1944.
She has lived in Vidalia since 1978, was a retired hairdresser, and a member of the Vidalia Presbyterian Church and the Circle Group. She was preceded in death by two husbands, James D. Tucker and Charles Somers, Jr.; and three siblings, Maxine Geren, Kenneth Taylor and Orvil Taylor. She was an avid Georgia Tech fan.
Mrs. Somers is survived by two daughters, Reba K. Ludwig and Joan Stone and husband, Stanley, all of Vidalia; two step-daughters, Nell Somers Pond of Atlanta and Denise Somers DeTerlizzi of Kearny, New Jersey; one step-son, Charles C. Somers III of Atlanta; two sisters, Gail Sheehan and husband, Tom, of Haleyville; and Linda Green of Statesboro; two brothers, Glenn Taylor and Charlie Taylor both of Haleyville; two grandchildren, Tiffany Cook Beverley and husband, Keith, of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Ryan D. Walters of Birmingham, Alabama; seven great-grandchildren, thirteen step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside funeral service was held Tuesday, November 12, at 1:00 p.m. in the Pinecrest Cemetery with the Reverend David Blalock officiating.
