Ricky Barnes traveled to Kentucky and competed in the 2013 United Beagle Gundog Federation National Championships on November 2-3. At this event they test the top dogs in the nation to see which one can track and run a rabbit the best.
After two days of running Barnes’ dog, Major, came out on top! FCGD Barnes’ Blackwater Creek A Major is now the 2013 United Beagle Gundog Federation National Champion! Major also got third earlier this year at the Mid-America Brace Nationals in Indiana on March 24. Barnes also owns the 2013 AKC Reserve Female National Champion (FCGD Blackwater Creek’s Get Behind Me Katie) and another male named Blackout that got fifth at the 2013 United Beagle Gundog Federation Derby National Championships earlier this year in Kentucky. Barnes stated that he loves running dogs and that winning the Nationals was one of the highlights of his life. He said that he has trained these dogs hard all of their lives but would not feel right if he did not thank two of his friends that have helped him run and train these dogs sometime during their lives, Kirk Evans and Mark Atkins! Also, he said he would like to thank his wife (Nickie Barnes) and sons (Jake, Maverick, and Nate Barnes) for putting up with the many hours of training and his traveling to achieve some goals with his dogs. Most of all Barnes said that he would like to thank his Lord Jesus Christ for dying on the cross for his sins and allowing him to live in a great country that allows him to enjoy such a great sport with great people.
