Sheriff Deloach gives update on recent events
Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.
April 23, answered a call to Harry Street in reference to threats. A complainant stated that known offender keeps threatening to kill him. The complainant was advised to speak with the magistrate.
April 23, answered a call to Red Dot Road in reference to harassment. A complainant stated the offender(s) were following them closely and kept coming by trying to get her to pull over.
April 23, answered a call to Williams Drive in reference to a theft. A complainant stated person(s) unknown stole a gun from her vehicle. Investigation continues.
April 23, answered a call to Highway 341 in reference to a fire. A complainant stated while traveling down Highway 341 her car started smoking. The Baxley Fire Department responded to the call.
April 24, a routine traffic stop on Oak Street resulted in the arrest of Brittany Cherie Crosby, age 21, of Baxley. Crosby was charged with possession of marijuana.
April 24, answered a call to Lawanna Drive in reference to juvenile problems. A complainant stated the offender wouldn’t mind her and had tried to break in the home. The offender was not found at time of the report.
April 25, answered a call to County Farm Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated person(s) unknown took a refrigerator from the peanut plant. Investigation continues.
April 25, answered a call to Golden Isles East in reference to criminal trespassing/theft. A complainant stated the unknown offender(s) cut the wire fence and entered the property stealing 4,000 pounds of scrap metal and three electric fans. Investigation continues.
April 25, answered a call to Corey Street in reference to a theft. A complainant stated the offender(s) unknown had somehow got his debit card number and made two transactions on his account. Investigation continues.
April 25, answered a call to Johnny Smith Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated the offender(s) went into his safe and took $2,700.00. Investigation continues.
April 26, a routine traffic stop on Ten Mile Highway resulted in the arrest of Jerry Carl Evans, age 59, of Baxley. Evans was charged with D.U.I. and driving on suspended license.
April 26, answered a call to Piney Bluff Road in reference to harassment. Complainant stated the offender kept spinning doughnuts in his yard. He has asked her to not come back to the property. The complainant was advised to see the magistrate.
April 26, a routine traffic stop on Hovis Road resulted in the arrest of Donald Wingard, age 60, of Baxley. Wingard was charged with driving while license suspended and no seatbelt.
April 27, answered a call to Deen Tyre Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated person(s) unknown stole 1,000 feet of 10-2 wire and ground, a dual feed pump off of the well, and a 5-foot ladder. Investigation continues.
April 27, answered a call to Arthur Williams Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated person(s) unknown had came onto his property and put up no trespassing signs on the trees and done damage to two of his deer stands. Investigation continues.
April 27, answered a call to Golden Isles West in reference to a theft. A complainant stated person(s) unknown stole a stainless steel table from his property. Investigation continues.
April 27, answered a call to John Lewis Lane in reference to a theft. A complainant stated the offender was working on her vehicle and stole some blank checks from her vehicle.
April 27, answered a call to George Craven Road in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated that the offender had destroyed the meter on her house belonging to Satilla REMC.
April 27, answered a call to Tupelo Circle in reference to a missing dog incident. A complainant stated that his dog went missing out of his yard on this date.
April 27, answered a call to Hutcheson Road in reference to a burglary. A complainant stated unknown person(s) entered his residence and took a Play Station Three (250 GB) with the controllers and cords. Investigation continues.
April 27, a routine traffic stop on 341 West resulted in the arrest of Refugio Delacruz, age 27, of Baxley. Delacruz was charged with D.U.I., failure to maintain lane and driving while unlicensed.
April 28, answered a call on Black Creek Trail in reference to a theft. A complainant stated unknown person(s) stole his air conditioner from his residence. Investigation continues.
April 29, answered a call to Golden Isles West in reference to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival officers spoke with the complainant and she stated her and the offender got into a verbal disagreement. The offender then became irate and hit the offender. The offender Gary Covington, age 32, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with battery and cruelty to children.
April 29, answered a call to Lake Mayers Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated the offenders stole a frame air conditioning coil and five chrome rims for a vehicle. Investigation continues.
April 29, answered a call to Highway 144 in reference to battery. A complainant stated the offender jumped on her and tied a t-shirt around her neck dragging her down the road. The offender was not on scene at the time of officer’s arrival. The complainant was advised on how to obtain a warrant for the offender.
April 29, answered a call to West Parker Street in reference to harassment. A complainant stated that he is being harassed about testifying in a hearing that is coming up. Investigation continues.
April 30, a routine traffic stop on Satilla Church Road resulted in the arrest of Jonathan Wayne Shumans, age 37, of Baxley, was arrested. Shumans was charged with D.U.I.
April 30, answered a call to Williamson Drive in reference to damage to property. A complainant stated he was plowing his field and the marker off of the plow struck a guide wire on a floodlight doing damage.
April 30, answered a call to Ten Mile Road in reference to harassment. A complainant stated the offender kept calling and threatening to beat him.
Sheriff Deloach asks that if anyone notices any suspicious activity please report it to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office at 367-8120.
