Curtis Dillard Thomas, age 81, of Baxley, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at his residence under the care of Southern Care Hospice.Thomas was born April 19, 1932, in Appling County. He was the son of the late Dillard Thomas and Chapel Mae Rowell Thomas. Thomas was the owner of Thomas Garage and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann Thomas of Baxley; two daughters, Karen (Brandon) Lewis of Hazlehurst and Joy (Michael) Brazell of Evans; one sister, Nell Sapp of Baxley; two brothers, D.L. Thomas of Baxley and Ray Thomas of Pooler; and five grandchildren.
The funeral was held Friday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Quinn and the Rev. Tommy Lowery officiating.
Active pallbearers were Larry Callaway, Joey Merier, Brandon Lewis, Michael Brazell, Trevor Gibbs, Carroll Sapp and Dale Sapp.
Honorary pallbearers were Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Dean, Mr. and Mrs. Derrol Hutcheson, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Reese, Carl Tillman, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Shipes, Arlie McMillan, Robert Huff, Dwayne Bullard, Herb Hunter and Imogene Crapps.
Interment followed in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
Visitation was held Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
