Mary Nell Veal Stewart, 88, died April 24, 2011 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick. Mary Nell was born in Baxley, Appling County on Dec. 14, 1922, the third of five daughters of the late W. L. Veal and the late Georgia B. Veal of Baxley.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Veal Carter, Mrs. Willie Veal Parker and Mrs. Martha Veal Ballenger.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Tom Stewart; four children, Tommy Stewart (Sherrie), George Stewart (Michelle), Mary K. Nencioni (Ron) and Warren Stewart (Cindy); 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn Veal Durden of Lyons; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a whole universe of people whom she loved and who loved her.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 26 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thad Harvey and the Rev. Tommy Daniels officiating. Interment followed in the family plot at Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Lewis Parker, Bill Parker, David Carter, Bruce Durden, Glenn Durden and Ricky Kimbrel.
Musical selections were rendered by Jeff Lewis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
