The Baxley-Appling County Board of Tourism is pleased to announce the return of the local Appling County Farmers Market.
The local farmers market is scheduled to open on Saturday, May 21 at Caroline Miller Park, next to City Hall in front of the Appling County Public Library.
The local market will be open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon through most of the summer. There will be no fee for farmers or for patrons. NO YARD SALE OR FLEA MARKET ITEMS WILL BE ALLOWED!
This market is intended to give the citizens of Appling County access to healthy, fresh produce and farm products, and to give farmers a local market for their crops.
If you love to cook with whole, healthy, and affordable foods, this will be the place for you to shop.
Shopping will never be so much fun. Farmers markets also give families a chance to know their farmers personally.
The market will abide by the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture rules for farmers markets. Interested growers will need to complete our local farmers market registration form and receive a sheet of market rules from the Baxley-Appling County Board of Tourism, at 367-7731, as well as obtain a (free) growers permit from the Appling County Extension office (912) 367-8130.
The local farmers market is sponsored by the Baxley Appling County Tourism and is supported by the Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce, City of Baxley, Appling County Commissioners, Appling County Cooperative Extension Office, and Farm Supply Centers of Appling County.
Farmers, gardeners, and bakers who wish to participate should contact Karen Tharpe at (912) 367-7731 or ktharpe@bellsouth.net to get apprised of the market rules. Organic or natural growers are welcome to participate, but must have a permit certifying them as organic growers from the Georgia Department of Agriculture (800)282-5852.
So don’t wait growers, gardeners and bakers, contact the Baxley-Appling County Board of Tourism today and reserve your space to sell your delicious selection of farm-direct fruits and vegetables during the 2011 Appling County Farmers Market scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 21.
