Miles-Nobles Funeral Home announces the death of Evelyn Carter, 82, who passed away Monday, August 26, 2013 at Memorial Health after a brief illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County, a retired seamstress and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Vinnie Barber Harden; one sister, Velma Bullard; two brothers, Elmer and Allen Harden and a son-in-law, Wallace “Ball” Thomas.
Surviving is her husband of sixty nine years, P. C. Carter of Baxley; two daughters, Eldora Thomas of Bloomingdale and Annette and husband Robert Hamlin of Baxley; three sons, J. L. and wife Vonda Carter, Mickey and wife Connie Carter and Scott and wife Cindy Carter, all of Baxley; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, the Rev. Wilford and wife Dottie Harden of Glennville, Bill Harden of Brunswick, Johnny and wife Donnie Mae Harden of Baxley and W. H. and wife Jeanette Harden of North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Lois Harden of Jacksonville, FL and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation was held Wednesday, August 28 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 29 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Brinkley and the Rev. William Gardner officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers were the Adult Sunday School Class of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Peggy Griffin.
