The General Assembly of Georgia created a Board of Elections for Appling County during the General Assembly, in 2013 House Bill 552. This Board consists of six members who will assume all duties of the Probate Judge as Election Superintendent in all elections, city and county.
The State of Georgia has 159 counties, which are formed as below for elections:
-107 Combined Boards of Elections and Registrar
- 48 Probate Judges with Registrar
- 4 Election Supervisors and Registrar
The members on the Board of Elections are appointed by Appling Commissioners from each district and the Chairman of Commissioners. Their terms run concurrent with the commissioner who appoints them.
They are listed in the following order: District 1 appointee, Samantha Craven; District 2 appointee, Gerry Moore; District 3 appointee, Dean Collins; District 4 appointee, Rodney Williams; District 5 appointee, Roger Cain; and Chairman of the Board of Commissioners appointee, James I. (Jimmy) Johnson.
All members were sworn in as Election Superintendents on August 28 by Probate Judge Diane Hallman. Also sworn in at this time was Donna H. Carter as Supervisor of Elections.
