This past weekend the ACA baseball team won two of three games against the Barnes Academy Vikings. The Eagles dropped game one by a five to four score. The Eagles failed to score in the first inning but gave up the only earned run the Vikings would manage in the game. In the second inning two errors by the Eagles coupled with three walks would net the Vikings four more runs.
The Eagles were able to come back and score twice in the top of the second with both RBIs going to Junior Corey Reagin on a long single. Pitching, senior Caleb Ellington was able to shut down the Viking bats for the balance on the game allowing only three more hits and no additional runs.
The Eagles would score two more times on a fourth inning sacrifice fly by Caleb Ellington and a sixth inning single from Sophomore Andrew Phillips. However, the Eagles were able to reach base only once in the seventh inning with a double from Freshman Bryce Livingston.

Game two looked to be a pitchers’ dual as neither team scored in the first two innings of play. The Eagles would finally break the stalemate in the third. Corey Reagin was hit by a pitch leading off the inning and then stole second base. Reagin moved to third on a sacrifice fly by Caleb Ellington. Reagin would come home on an error off the second baseman following a hard hit ball from Andrew Phillips. Reagin would score again in the fifth and seventh innings, once on a single from Sophomore Rex Cox and later on a double from Caleb Ellington.
The fourth and final run would also come in the seventh inning, as Andrew Phillips would single in Ellington. Senior Don Phillips started the game on the mound for Appling Christian and would yield only one run to the Barnes Academy Vikings over six and one third innings. That run coming in the seventh with one out. Andrew Phillips came in to pitch in relief with the bases loaded with Vikings. Phillips would earn the save on just two pitches. The first pitch was a called strike and the second was a come backer to the mound. Phillips threw to sophomore catcher Brandon Horton for the second out. Horton would throw to Don Phillips, who had moved over to play first, trying for out number three. The throw was wide of the bag with no possibility for the out. Don then threw back to shortstop Rex Cox who applied the tag to the base runner advancing from second for out number three. Game two would end in dramatic fashion, with four to one score, forcing game three on Saturday at Eagle Field.
The Eagles would clinch the series on Saturday in decisive fashion with a fourteen to four win. The seniors would again assume the pitching responsibilities.
Don Phillips would pitch the first three innings and Caleb Ellington the last two innings of the abbreviated game.
The Eagles scored seven times in the first inning of play and seven more times in the fourth inning.
The Appling Christian baseball team will now advance to the final round of the Georgia Christian Athletic Association tournament and face Killian Hill Christian Academy from Lilburn.
The three game series will take place in Valdosta at the Open Bible Baptist athletic facility on Friday.
