The Appling County Pirates started the 2013 season Friday, August 23 at Jimmy Swain Stadium in a scrimmage against the neighboring Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets. The Pirate varsity team defeated the Yellow Jackets 32-6 in three quarters. The junior varsity teams played the third quarter with the local squad coming out on top.
The Pirates will begin the regular season Friday, August 30 on the road against the Wayne County Yellow Jackets (1-0 overall). Wayne County started their regular season on August 23 defeating Brunswick (0-1) 35-20.
Last season the Pirates hosted Wayne County with the teams playing to a 14-14 tie.
There were no live kickoffs so the Pirates started their first drive at their own 35. On the first offensive play Pirate quarterback Jason Dhaliwal connected with running back Justin Moore on a 65-yard touchdown pass to make the score, with the extra point no good, 6-0 with 9:43 remaining in the first quarter.
