District Attorney Jackie Johnson announces that on Wednesday, August 14, an Appling County jury found 29 year-old James Cornelius Vann of Baxley guilty of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Two Counts Aggravated Assault, Possession of Firearm during commission of a Felony and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The charges stemmed from the August 2012 shooting death of 25 year-old Tiesha Kenyetta Davis. Davis was found shot multiple times in the street next to her car on Edgerton Street in Baxley.
A jury was selected on Monday, August 12, heard evidence on Tuesday and Wednesday before delivering a verdict. Superior Court Judge E.M. Wilkes, III presided over the case and sentenced Vann to Life without Parole plus an additional twenty-five (25) years in prison.
Assistant District Attorney Jan Kennedy presented the case for the State. Vann was represented by the Circuit Defender’s Office. The District Attorney’s Office would like to thank Sgt. Tonya Carter and the Baxley Police Department, as well as the Appling County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for their investigation of the case.
