B. J. and I have been traveling at home and abroad with Rita Williams, of Baxley, for over twenty years. Rita is an exciting traveling friend whether on the road or in the air.
We spend a lot of time with Rita on St. Simons eating out or eating in, cooking out or cooking in. Either she is at our house or we are at her Beach Club Condo. We are either reminiscing about our past travels or dreaming up new adventures. There is never a dull moment with Rita. Our travels across the years have made us efficient voyagers.
Some time back, our phone rang; it was Rita. She started right off: “I’m out of school for the summer and I’m ready to travel,” she eagerly announced. (Rita teaches home economics at Appling County High School.)
“Well, where do you want to travel to?” I asked.
“I’m coming to your house and we’ll make some plans.”
A few days later, Rita pulled into our driveway bubbling with excitement.
Soon, we were into some serious debate about destinations. We thrashed out such places as Miami, Key West, the Outer Banks, the Shenandoah Valley, and the Pennsylvania Amish. Finally, we settled on the Amish country in Lancaster, Pa.
After a couple of weeks of planning, we were set to ride.
