Jeanette Orvin Bowman, 83, died Sunday evening (May 5, 2013) at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross following a brief illness.
She was a native of Appling County but had lived most of her life in Ware County. She was the wife of the late Buck Ernest “B.E.” Bowman, and daughter of the late W. H. “Son” Orvin, Jr. and Carrie Branch Orvin. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Trogdon and Wynell Bush.
She was a member of Haywood Baptist Church of Dixie Union where she had been active with the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Prior to her husband’s death in 1990 she volunteered with the Library at Central Baptist Church. She had been also active with the Okefenokee Chapter #474 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Baxley High School.
She retired in 1991 as a food service employee with the Waycross School System after many years of service. During her career she had worked at Alice Street School and was working at Center Junior High School at her retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail McCarthy (husband, Randy) of Dixie Union; two sons, Wendell Brian Bowman (wife, Ellen) of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Wade Clinton Bowman (wife, Harriet) of Waycross; eight grandchildren, Andrew Bowman and Simon Bowman of Tuscaloosa, AL, Jeremy Bowman (wife, Jessica Denise) of Vancouver, Canada, Jessica Bowman Peters (husband, Matt) of Waycross, James Bowman of Waycross, Dr. Joshua McCarthy (wife, Kristin) of North Augusta, SC, Zachary McCarthy (wife, Haley) of Waycross, and Nealie O’Neal (husband, Chris) of Waycross; 9 great grandchildren; four sisters, Annette Osborne of Baxley, Dorothy O’Steen of Blackshear, Carrie Lee Bryant (husband Bobby) of Hazlehurst, and Jackie Hayes of Waycross; six brothers, J.W. Orvin (wife, Patricia), R.L. Orvin, H.B. Orvin (wife, Janet), D.C. Orvin (wife, Billie Jean), Danny Orvin (wife, Brenda), and Mickey Orvin (wife, Barbara) all of Appling County; a brother-in-law, Bob Trogdon (wife, Latrelle) of Alma, a sister-in-law, Dot Moye of Waycross, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, (May 8, 2013) at Haywood Baptist Church. Burial was in Bethel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Appling County. Members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class were asked to gather at the church at 1:40 p.m. Wednesday to serve as honorary pallbearers. The family received friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Music Funeral Home.
