Lou Ella Carter, 82, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013. Lou Ella was born Nov. 5, 1930 in Appling County to the late John Wilton Willoughby and the late Elvie Carter Willoughby. She was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church. Lou Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Cleveland Carter, four sisters, Waunell Albert, Johnnie Ruth Tyre, Winifred Crosby, Mary Hoover and four brothers, Richard Willoughby, Cornell Willoughby, George Thomas Willoughby and Rondall Willoughby.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Larry Medders and Sandy and Lee Sweat, all of Baxley; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Jonnilee Carter, Steve and Debbie Carter and Spencer and Gayle Carter, all of Baxley; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 from Swain Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Tommy Daniels and Bobby Brinkley officiating. Interment followed in Carter Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were John Tyre, Leonard Tyre, Shane Carter, Kevin Carter, Tony Hoover and Keith Albert.
Honorary pallbearers were Spring Branch Baptist Church Adult II Sunday-School Class.
Musical selections were rendered by Jackie Smiley, Lorene Purcell and Kim Hall.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
