Frank J. Moore, 89, passed away at Lumber City Nursing Home Friday, March 8, 2013. He was born Sept. 20, 1923 in Canastota, NY. After receiving his education in New York, Moore joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed at the air force base in Homestead, FL. On base he met a cute little secretary, Virginia Boyett, who became the love of his life. They were married in 1945 and spent 56 happy years together. Most of these years were spent in Homestead, where Frank ended his military service and began his career as an automobile mechanic.
After retirement Frank and Virginia left their many friends in Homestead and moved to Buck Head Road in Appling County. They became faithful members of Zoar Baptist Church where Frank used his beautiful singing voice in the church choir. He also served as leader of the Senior Adult Discipleship Training class for many years until he became disabled in 2012.
Moore was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; and two brothers.
Survivors include one brother, Charles Moore of Osprey, FL and four sons, Joe and Rodney Moore of Center Hill, FL, Ricky Moore of Carbondale, Pennsylvania and Jeffrey (Sherri) Moore of Bear Creek, N.C. He is also survived by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. March 11 at Swain Funeral Home in Baxley with the Rev. J. E. Blanton officiating. Music was presented by Mr. and Mrs. Roger Cain, Betty Wooten and Zoar Baptist Church choir. Burial followed in Lower Lotts Creek Cemetery in Bulloch County.
Active pallbearers were Kyle Boyett, Gene Boyett, Billy Coleman, Earl Cook, Jimmy Moore and Rodney Moore.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Zoar Senior Men’s Sunday school class and special friends including Graham breakfast buddies Vickers and Patricia Mead, Buddy and Diana Stone, Don Williams and his Catfish House companions Simon and Betty Wooten.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
