The Appling Christian Academy Lady Eagles concluded their regular basketball season with a 17-1 won-loss record. The team won the Division I GCAA State Championship with a win over arch rival Kings Way Christian School from Douglasville. Sophomore, Bethany Rivers, was voted the Most Valuable Player of the state tournament. She had 29 points and 29 rebounds for the tournament.
Prior to the state tournament, the Lady Eagles emerged as GCAA Regional champions with wins over Peoples Christian and Bible Baptist Christian School. Both schools are from the Atlanta area.
Over the past three seasons, the Lady Eagles have established an impressive 55-6 won-loss record and the future looks bright as all of the 2012-13 team members will be returning next year.
Season scoring leaders for the team included Victoria Cox (13.8 average), Deanna Johnson (10.2 average), and Bethany Rivers (9.1 average). Leading the Lady Eagles in rebounds were Bethany Rivers (131 season total), Sarah Dhaliwal (131 season total), and Deanna Johnson (123 season total). Lauren Beasley led the team with 105 assists for the season. Free throw shooting leaders with 30 or more shots were Deanna Johnson (80%) and Bethany Rivers (70%).
The Lady Eagles will be competing in the National Association of Christian Athletics Tournament in Dayton, Tennessee on February 27-March 2.
The ACA team is coached by Hal Cox, head coach, and Justin Smith, assistant coach.
