David Smith died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Kindred Hospital Central Tampa in Tampa, FL. Smith was born in Baxley on Sept. 14, 1945 to the late Ruben Smith, Sr. and the late Veler Singleton Smith. David gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at a very early age. He attended Appling County School System and later attended Hill Brook Community College in Tampa. Smith was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Rosetta Russell Smith. He was a Lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. While a member of the Masons he proudly obtained the rank of Master Mason. Smith was a faithful member of the Landmark Masonic Lodge #93 F. &A.M. Inc. of Tampa. David was retired from the Cargill Company after completing 43 years of faithful service.
In addition to his parents, sisters, Ruby Lee James and Barbara Jones, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his lovely and devoted wife, Rosetta Russell Smith of Tampa, FL; three children, Norma Jean Gains, David Henry Smith, Jr. and Billy Mitchell Smith, Sr. (Lisa Marie), all of Tampa, FL; several adoptive children in Africa; sister, Eva Jean Cray, Mary L. Hines, Pastor Billy Jackson (Bishop John), Kathy Ryals (Henry), Johnnie Jackson (Clifton), all of Baxley and Mildred Miller of Soperton; brothers, Ruben Smith, Jr. of Fort Valley, Pastor Paul E. Smith (Marianne) Smith of Collins, Jackie Smith (Gloria) of Troy, AL and Mitchell Smith (Betty) of Hazlehurst; an adoptive brother, Tracy Parrish of Baxley; two special aunts, Overseer Sarah Ruth Mims (Melvin) and Evangelist Sarah Joe Goggins, both of Baxley; a special brother-in-law, Tommy Lee Jones of Baxley; grandchildren: Nicole Artese Reese, Janay Isom, Yasmine Smith, Davedna Smith, Alonzo (Amber) Kelley, Ronnie Smith, Billy Mitchell, Jr., all of Tampa; great grandchildren: King Shariff Reese, Queen Shartese Reese, Royale Myjoi Reese, TanesJah Pace, Marlos Pace, Jadah Moultry, Destiny Kelley, Camille Kelley, Ron?neiya O?Neal and Ronnie O?Neal, Jr., all of Tampa; special nieces, Glenda Young of Tampa, Lashonda Jackson, Nikki Kelley, both of Baxley and Dallas Wilkerson of Pooler; special friends, Staci Donomo and Ashley, both from Tampa, FL and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Funeral services for David Smith were held at 12:00 noon Saturday, Jan. 26 from New Jerusalem Holiness Unto the Lord Church, 72 MLK Avenue in Baxley with Overseer Pastor Sarah Ruth Mims presiding. Eulogy was given by the Rev. Douglas Stinson. Interment followed in Old Field Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jackie Smith, Anthony Richburg, Travis Sailem, Samuel Cray, Moses Cray, Joseph Kelley, Jessie Wilkerson and Marcus Sailem.
Honorary pallbearers were Kelvin Ryals, Robert James, Jr., Joel Cray and Ruben James.
Musical selections were rendered by Voices of Genesis, Trenton Drayton, The Anointed Mims Singers and the choir.
Arrangements were under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
