Shots fired at homeowner in Surrency
On Friday, January 18, at approximately 3:00 p.m. a homeowner in the Surrency area received a call that his home alarm had been activated. Upon arrival, the homeowner saw an unknown person in his yard. The suspect fired a gun at the homeowner and fled. The homeowner called 911 and the lookout was given to Appling and Wayne County Deputies. The homeowner followed the suspect. Wayne County Deputies on Hwy 169 just north of Jesup apprehended the suspect. The suspect, Ramon Johnson, 56, of Waycross, has been charged with possession of a firearm by convicted felon, two counts of aggravated assault, burglary, possession of firearm for the commission of a crime and possession of tools for the commission of a crime. This arrest will clear some past burglaries that have occurred in this area of the county.

Jan. 10, answered a call to Jekyll Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated unknown person(s) entered her residence and took two gold chains. Investigation continues.
Jan. 11, answered a call to Midway Church Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated two guns were missing from her residence. Investigation continues.
Jan. 12, answered a call to Lawanna Drive in reference to a theft. The complainant stated unknown person had taken various tools from his toolbox that was on the back of his truck.
Jan. 13, answered a call to Sandy Road in reference to damage to property. The
complainant stated mobile home is in foreclosure status and someone had busted the windows, and damaged the inside of the mobile home. Damage was estimated at $6,000.00.
Jan. 14, a routine traffic stop on Bay Street resulted in the arrest of Randy Eric Carter, 25, of Baxley. Carter was charged with speeding and possession of marijuana less-than-1 oz.
Jan. 15, answered a call to Pearce Road in reference to a burglary/theft. The complainant found door to residence had been pried open and found jewelry, and several other items, all valued at approximately $4,000.00, had been stolen. Investigation continues.
Jan. 16, answered a call to Georgia Baptist Children Home in reference to a run away juvenile. The K-9 officer was called but was unsuccessful in finding the juvenile at that time, but was found later and turned over to Juvenile Justice.
Jan. 17, the Appling County Sheriff’s investigator recovered a stolen shotgun from Toombs County at local pawnshop here in Baxley. Investigation still continues.
Jan. 17, answered a call to South Main Extension/Surrency in reference to a theft. The complainant stated taken from his property was a part of a mobile home frame, valued at $500.00. Investigation continues.
Jan. 19, answered a call to Ricardo Street in reference to a domestic. A husband and a wife had a verbal dispute. The husband left the residence until problem could be resolved. Both parties were advised to see attorney.
Jan. 19, answered a call to Chad Claxton Street in reference to a theft. Upon arrival it was discovered that five juveniles had stolen four bicycles. The Juvenile Officer was notified and juvenile complainants were filed on all juveniles and then released to parents. Bicycles were returned to owners.
Jan. 19, answered a call to Knight Sawmill Road in reference to a burglary. Complainant stated unknown person(s) broke a window, entered his residence, and took $75.00 in U.S. currency. Investigation continues.
Jan. 20, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report domestic/family violence. Complainant stated her boyfriend and father of her children had beaten her and made threats against her and the children. DFACS was notified and investigation continues.
Jan. 20, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft that occurred on North Side Street. Complainant stated he had two visitors at his residence and when they left he noticed his pistol was missing. Investigation continues.
Jan. 20, answered a call to Hatch Parkway North in reference to a domestic dispute. A father and a daughter had a dispute over grandchild not being taken care of. DFACS was notified and the child was placed with a relative as case is still under investigation.
Jan. 20, answered a call to Zoar Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A girlfriend and a boyfriend had a verbal dispute. The girlfriend left the residence.
Jan. 21, answered a call to Willow Lane in reference to a domestic. Two friends had a verbal dispute, which led to an altercation. Neither party wanted to press charges.
Jan. 21, answered a call to Bill Branch Road in reference to a theft. Complainant stated she let a subject live at her residence and when the subject left the subject took items without her permission.
Jan. 22, answered a call to Poplar Lane in reference to a civil dispute. Complainant and neighbor have a dispute over the water lines. Complainant stated her neighbor had cut off water to her residence.
Jan. 22, answered a call to Crosby Chapel Church Road in reference to a burglary. Complainant stated she found back glass door to residence broken and person(s) had entered residence and took a pistol, jewelry and money. Investigation continues.
Jan. 22, answered a call to Bud Miles Road in reference to criminal damage to property. Complainant stated subject attempted to break into her home and damaged her front door. Complainant stated possible suspect is a family member. Investigation continues.
Jan. 22, a complainant came to the Appling County Sheriff’s Office to report a financial card fraud. The complainant stated his ex-wife had opened credit card accounts in his name without his approval. Complainant stated cards have charges totaling approximately twenty thousand dollars. Investigation continues.
Jan. 24, a routine traffic stop on West Parker Street led to the arrest of Kyle Nicholas Cook, 17, of Baxley, who was charged with possession of marijuana. Also a juvenile was issued a citation for possession of marijuana and juvenile complaint was filed.
Jan. 24. a routine traffic stop on Highway no. 1 North led to the arrest of Jessica Lynne Andreau, 23, of Baxley, who was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of hydrocodone, possession of drug related object and drugs to be kept in original container.
Jan. 24, the Appling County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call from the Baxley Police Department for assistance on a vehicle that had been involved in a theft at Murphy’s Gas Station. A vehicle chase ensued and was finally stopped in Wayne County, which led to the arrest of Abby Caroline Bartlett, 18, of Brunswick. Bartlett was charged with giving false statements, fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, speeding 101-55, reckless driving, turning signals required and aggressive driving. Also arrested was the passenger of the vehicle Jared Michael Norton, 20, of Brunswick. Norton was charged with giving false information.
Jan. 24, answered a call to a Midway Church Road in reference to a theft, which led to the arrest of Bambi Allyssa Spears, 31, of Baxley. Spears was charged with theft by taking. Other arrest may be forth coming.
Jan. 24, answered a call to Orvin Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated unknown person had stolen approximately $25.00 worth of gas from her vehicle.
Jan. 26, answered a call to David Carter Road in reference to an unruly subject, which led to the arrest of Eric Mitchell Blanton, 36, of Baxley. Blanton was charged with disorderly conduct.
Jan. 26, answered a call to Blackshear Highway in reference to a theft. The complainant stated his Poulan chainsaw that was located under his shelter had been stolen. Investigation continues.
Jan. 26, answered a call to Cattle Gap Lane in reference to a civil dispute. The complainant stated he and his brother had a dispute over equipment that is to be sold and monies put on a loan that is in both names.
Jan. 26, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report harassing phone calls. The complainant stated caller stated she had won 2.5 million dollars and for her to send them proof of her identity and also send them $400.00. Additional calls were made making threats toward her if she did not respond. Investigation continues.
