After some discussion on the purchase of a delivery vehicle for Concerted Services, a motion was made by Commissioner Charlie Leggett to purchase a used Chevy Venture with 77,000 miles for the amount of $8,500.00. Commissioner Ronnie Rentz made a second and the motion failed passage with Commissioners Sarah Boatright, Theodore Wilkerson and Daryl Edwards voting against the motion. No further action was taken to allow for more quotes to be gathered.
Sealed bids were opened on the Graham Land Lease with the high bid being received from Williams Farms for the amount of $150.00 per acre. A motion was made by Wilkerson, with a second from Rentz, to approve the high bid. The motion carried unanimously and is a three-year contract.
County Manager Lee Lewis informed the Commissioners that a new roof for the Oak Street Complex is needed due to multiple leaks. The current roof is over 35 years old and had been patched multiple times. After some discussion a motion was made and approved to have an architect to make the plans to replace the roofs of all the buildings in the Complex.
SPLOST funding for the amount of $43,723,83 for the purchase of technology improvements at the Appling County Library was approved unanimously.
An amount of $78,000.00 to be used to complete the lighting at the Airport was approved unanimously. The funds will come from the general fund and were awarded due to an Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Baxley that allowed the County to collect an extra $4 million dollars in the 2009 SPLOST for improving and maintaining roads.
Information was shared about a new federal approach regulation at the Airport that will cause 5.86 acres of timber to have to be cleared. A motion was made by Rentz with a second by Boatright for bids to be sent out for the clearing. The motion was approved unanimously.
The current mileage reimbursement of $.50 cents per mile was increased to the same as the current State rate of $.55 cents per mile. A motion was made and approved unanimously.
A resolution to proceed with the District line changes according to State Law was approved unanimously.
Andy Tomberlin was approved unanimously to the Appling County Recreation Board from District One left vacant due to the resignation of the current representative.
The current member of the HOGA, Ronald Burkett, was reapproved.
The Commissioners reapproved Bob Highsmith as the County Attorney and approved Edwards as the Vice-Chairman.
