United States Representative John Barrow made a stop in Baxley last week as part of his 16-county Rural Listening Tour.
A number of locals attended the meeting held at the Ginger House on County Farm Road. Among topics discussed between Barrow and individuals in attendance included the recent Fiscal Cliff, a balanced budget amendment, Washington’s out of control spending, the Farm Bill, partisan politics, term limits, congressional redistricting and individual liberty.
Barrow talked about his affiliation with the conservative Democrat Coalition of Blue Dog Democrats and shared many of his ideas such as having a balance budget and reducing the size of government by at least 10 percent, or $4 trillion. He expressed concern about the current gridlock in Congress, which he alluded to as being caused by partisan politics by both parties and the belief that each party holds all the correct answers.
