The Pirates would waste no time getting on the board as Byron Buxton singled with one out in the first. The single was followed by a homerun to right center by Tyler Avera. Pirate starting pitcher Tyler Avera stranded two runners in the bottom of the inning. The Pirates lead 2-0 after one inning.
The visiting team batted around in the top half of the second inning and scored five runs on four hits. The inning was started by a lead off walk by Kyle Fennell, after one out Jeremy Ammons walked. Then Colby Griffin hit a long single off the center field fence to load the bases. Griffin missed hitting a three-run homerun by mere inches. A double off the bat of Josh Barber would plate two runs and put runners on second and third. Buxton would deliver a three-run homerun to push the lead to 7-0 after just one and one-half inning of play.
The Indians scratched for two runs in the bottom half of the second to make the score 7-2 after two.
The third inning would prove profitable as Byron Buxton hit another three-run homerun to push the score to 10-2 after three. The Pirates homerun barrage would conclude in the top half of the seventh inning when Justin Jaavis hit a long homerun over the scoreboard in left field to seal the game 14-3 for the Pirates.
Tyler Avera pitched four innings while giving up two runs on one hit. One run was unearned. Colby Baucom pitched one inning, giving up one earned run. Josh Barber pitched a scoreless sixth and Byron Buxton pitched a scoreless seventh to finish the game. The Pirates overall record is now 10-6 and 6-2 in region 2-AA.
The Pirates will be at home Monday, April 4 to play the Berrien County Rebels at 5:30 p.m. The Pirates next region contest will be Tuesday, April 5 at home against arch rival Jeff Davis with game time at 6:00 p.m. The Pirates will finish off the week traveling to Reidsville to face Tattnall County on Friday, April 8 with the game scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
