Living out a romantic fantasy in the place of your dreams is the yearning of many. To be full of thoughts, feelings, and attitudes characteristic of and conducive to passionate and adventurous romance is the fervent desire of numerous romantic zealots.
It is a sad commentary that some seem not to possess the innate capacity for fantastic romance. Their “romance” is fraught with inhibitions that curtail the adventure in romance. Their “love adventure” is dictated by long exposure to cultural conditioning: boy meets girl, love courtship and marriage, family and whatever may follow--hum drum, etcetera.
Although, the excitement of avid romance is not always dependent on external situations and circumstances, people spend fortunes in quest of that “special place” that will kindle that magic feeling favorable to loving and daring romance.
Almost fifty-two years ago, B. J. and I made a commitment to keep our lives from becoming a stale state of affairs. We would stay actively and romantically involved with each other and not allow inauspicious predicaments to erode our love for each other and our pizzazz or zest for new adventure.
Among our commitments to each other was traveling. Early on, we began arranging our lives and budget around an exciting travel agenda that would prove a blessing to us over the years. To date, we have covered a good bit of the world and we are still on the road.
I previously stated that the excitement of avid romance is not always dependent on external situations and circumstances. However, we have discovered many places that rekindle our enthusiasm for each other. While my list is short, I will share a few of these places with you.
Our visit to the awesome Swiss Alps triggered thrilling sensations. Even flying 30,000 feet above the snow-capped Alps prompted emotions that caused us to snuggle closely in our seats in the huge jetliner. We had always heard that the Swiss Alps are among the most romantic places on earth and now we were flying over them.
Our lodging in Lucerne, Switzerland would be the Grand Hotel Europe on dazzling Lake Lucerne. Set in a 100-year old building, Grand Hotel Europe is located in the center of town. Decorated with elegant furnishings, each room offers a mix of old-world and modern décor. The on-site restaurant has European cuisine along with international dishes.
Due to its location on the shore of Lake Lucerne within sight of Mount Pilatus and Rigi, mountains in the Swiss Alps, Lucerne has long been a destination for honeymooners.
One of the city’s famous landmarks is the Chapel Bridge, a wooden bridge first erected in the 14th century.
Bordered by a beautiful marina filled with gleaming yachts, a long, scenic walkway along the lake leads to the Chapel Bridge. This walkway is one of the most popular spots in Switzerland--a favorite setting for lovers. A stroll along the walkway and across the Chapel Bridge under a full moon shining over the majestic snow-covered peaks and beaming down on the lake is reputed to be one of the most romantic places in the world. It is reported that proposals of marriage, presentation of engagement rings, and even weddings are commonplace on the Chapel Bridge.
Kauai, Hawaii is perfect for lovebirds, whether you are about to tie the knot, want to renew your vows or simply are in the mood for romance. The “Garden Isle,” as it is known, will exceed your every expectation of seclusion, romance and luxuriant surroundings of both the natural and manmade varieties. Blessed with an abundance of natural splendor, Kauai boasts lovely beaches, stunning sunsets, outrageously colored tropical flowers and dramatic cliffs and canyons that are best viewed on a romantic helicopter tour for two.
Venice, Italy ranks high on the list of top romantic places. It is impossible to think “Venice” without using “romance” in the same sentence. An evening gondola ride among the Venice canals is an absolute must, as is a stroll around Piazza San Marco, one of the grandest squares in Europe. If you are still not romanced out, then head to both the Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs, where the two of you can declare your undying love once more.
Moreover, by no means least as leading romantic spots are the dreamy Golden Isles of Georgia.
Like I say, external circumstances are not all there is to genuine love and romance, but they do have their place.
