Dear Editor,
I would like to talk about the tragedy that struck our nation last week. I am talking about the Sandy Hook School shooting. I, like many others, was shocked when I heard the news about this evil act of terror on innocent children and teachers. What kind of person would do this to babies that were just starting to live and enjoy their lives? I think a person that was full of evil. Nothing else can be said about that from doctors or therapists that are trying to analyze his actions.

I then reflected on back to when I started school in 1965. I had great teachers in elementary school; Ms. Doke, Ms. Parker, Ms. Purvis and Ms. Griffin. Before anything was taught to us we sang songs, said the Pledge, and then the teacher would read us a Bible verse. Those were some very trying times in our country, but I cannot recall any public school shooting. Folks our problem started when we took prayer out of school. We let a few people take away something that is very important to small children starting out in life. From ages 5 to 17 a child spends most of his or her life in school. They are learning everything from academics to social skills. If prayer was still in school they would be learning God’s laws, as well as some of man’s, and one law both of God and man, “Thou Shall Not Kill”. Now if this man had heard about the Lord and his laws in his elementary school years, maybe he would have learned to “Honor Your Mother and Father,” and “Thou Shall Not Kill”. Maybe it would have been the difference that he needed. No one knows except God.
My wife is a teacher and I also still have children and grandchildren in the school system. I pray over them each night asking the Lord to place His blanket of protection over each of them and also asking Him to pour His blood over them so that no matter how strong the evil is it will not get through to any of them. Are you praying for your children and grandchildren? Are you praying for the other children around here and around the world? Are you praying for our teachers? If not will you please start today? If we ask, God will answer.
A woman once told me that she had a hard problem believing in God. I asked her, why? She told me because she could not see him. I asked her if she believed in the wind and she told me, “yes”. I said, but you can’t see the wind. She told me that she could feel wind so I then told her that I can feel God. She was amazed at my answer. Just like her there are children that will never know about God because of the wrong interpretation of our great Constitution.
Our Forefathers never intended for this to happen. In my heart I am sure of this. Please continue to pray for the families of the massacre at Sandy Hook and pray for protection against evil for our children and teachers.
