The Appling County Pirates (8-2-1 overall) hosted the Rockmart Yellow Jackets (6-5) in the first round of the GHSA State Playoffs on November 16 with the Pirates falling 33-34.

Pirates stung by Yellow Jackets, finish season 8-2-1
In other Region 1-AAA action the top seed Pierce County (10-1) defeated Central of Carroll (5-6) 33-27 in overtime, third seed Johnson of Savannah (5-6) defeated Chapel Hill (6-5) 32-23 and fourth seed Tattnall County (5-6) lost 7-49 to Callaway (10-1). Pierce County will host Peach County (10-1) and Johnson of Savannah will travel to Thomson (11-0) in the second round of the playoffs on Friday, November 23.

The first score of the contest came on a five-yard touchdown run by Pirate Jordan Vann. Israel Jaramillo added the extra point to make the score 7-0 with 10:26 remaining in the first quarter.
The next score of the game came on a 27-yard touchdown pass by the Jackets. The two point try would be unsuccessful to make the score 7-6 with 7:40 remaining in the first quarter.
Pirate quarterback Vernon Dasher later scored on an eight-yard touchdown run to make the score, with the extra point, 14-6 with 8:34 left in the second quarter.
The Yellow Jackets answered with a 31-yard touchdown pass to make the score, with two-point conversion, 14-14 with 7:41 left in second quarter.
Pirate’s Dasher scored the next touchdown on a 20-yard run to make the score, with the two-point conversion no good, 20-14 with 5:45 remaining in the second quarter.
The Yellow Jackets answered with a two-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion failed to tie the score at 20-20 with 2:12 left in the second quarter.
The next score did not come until the Pirate’s scored on a seven-yard touchdown run by Dasher to make the score, with the extra point, 27-20 with 10:17 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Yellow Jackets took their first lead after a 50-yard touchdown run and adding the two-point conversion to make the score 27-28 with 9:57 left in the fourth quarter.
The Pirates took the lead right back on an eight-yard touchdown run by Dasher. The two point conversion failed to make the score 33-28 with 5:26 left in the fourth quarter.
The Yellow Jackets retook the lead for good on an eight-yard touchdown run. The two point try was no good to make the final score 33-34.
