The manager stated the city received three bids for the solid waste pickup service, however only two were competitive bids. Republic Services and All Green Services gave the competitive bids.
“All Green Services is slightly lower, however I believe that remaining with our existing provider would be in the city’s best interest and best for our customers service delivery,” explained Baxley. “Having the same contractor as the county is extremely important and keeping it that way, especially due to our jagged outlying boundaries, played an important part in my recommendation.”
The manager also recommended at no additional cost to the city or customers to implement a voluntary recycling program that would include a minimum of four convenience centers strategically placed around the city for both residential and commercial use.
“I recommend that we leave our rates at approximately the same ($10.00) to help offset expenses associated with providing and maintaining 90 and 300 gallon containers, as well as administration, which we have never been able to do in the past,” Baxley said.
Following recommendations, the council voted unanimously to approve the manager’s recommendations to renew the contract with Republic Services, contingent upon an agreed contract between the city and the contractor.
